orii i A great actress, who emerged as a brilliant interpreter of the ideal of brotherhood among all faiths and races, delighted and inspired a large Detroit audi- ence that filled the Fort Shelby Hotel ballroom last Friday at the concluding event of the 1960 Brotherhood Month activ- ities, conducted here by the Detroit Round Table. Cornelia Otis Skinner, na- tional chairman of Brotherhood Week for 1960, sponsored by 1•11 IN =I - the National Conference of Christians and Jews, parent or- ganizat•on of the Round Table, made a thrilling appeal for an unending fight on prejudice. She called bigotry "a sin against democracy" and de- clared that the efforts of the inter-faith movement in which she is playing an important role are "in the name of intelligence and plain common sense." She advocated that much more should be done to advance the ideal of good will and broth- erhood—through the arts—and by making it a year-round pro- gram. Alfred May, president of the Detroit Round Table, presided. Fr. Leo J. Trese, co-chairman of the DRT religious organiza- tions committee, gave the in- vocation. Dr. Robert M. Frehse, DRT executive director, greeted the guests. Miss Mary V. Beck, presi- dent of the Detroit Common on Council, welcomed Miss Skin- ner in behalf of the City of Detroit and presented her with a key to the city. C.
