Huron.
Testimony revealed in the
court case showed that the

screening process for prospec-
tive property purchasers, Adams
stated.
Purchasers are investigated
by a private detective wh,, fills
out a questionnaire which con-
tains these questions concern-
ing the applicant:
Whether he is "swarthy" and
if so what grade of swarthiness;
whether or not the applicant or
his wife has an accent and if
so whether that accent is pro-
nounced, medium or slight;
what is the applicant's reli-
gion; does he dress conserva-
tively or in a flashy manner;
are his friends predominantly
American or otherwise; and
others of that nature.
Each answer is given . a point
value, the Attorney General
said, by a committee which has
been established for that pur-
pose. Some of the necessary
grades for different nationali-
ties that qualify include Polish,
55 points; Italian or Southern
European, 65 points; Jew, 85
points. Negroes and Orientals
are not allowed any points.
"I have directed a complete
investigation of this situation,"
Adams said, "to see what action
should be taken by the state.
These steps will assure the
legality or illegality of these
practices."
Sol I. Littman, Michigan re-
gional director of Bnai Brith's
Anti-Defamation League, this
week stated that the ADL also
may enter the case as a "friend
of the court."
Charging the screening proc-
