Richard Frede, 26 - year - old . newspaperman, has attained re- markable results, in good writ- ing and medical research, with his second novel, "The Interns," which has just been published by Random House. There are a number of very valuable aspects to this novel. Its major achievement is the description of the difficulties that are encountered by gradu- ates from medical schools in their roles as interns. Then there are the problems that be- set hospitals. There is a real challenge in the case of one of the pa- tients who suffers from the silent disease of syringomy- elia, who knows that he is doomed to die, who wants death to come quickly, so that the meager funds should not dwindle quickly, thus leav- ing his wife without means of sustenance. He pleads for help to die and the doctors argue with him. 4••■••■••••••■•••■■■•■■•••■■•■•■■.- They can not ethically approve Season's Greetings of mercy killing. He debates Distin & Distin,, Inc.
