Mercury Dropped from Newsstands in Philadelphia PHILADELPHIA, (JTA) — The American Mercury maga- zine, which has been accused of publishing prolific anti - Semi- mitic material in recent years, has virtually disappeared from newstands throughout Phila- delphia, it was learned here. Previously, newsdealers and dis- tributors in the New York area had dropped the periodical after a virtual ban was reported by printers against it. Samuel Gentile, president of the Philadelphia Newspaper and Magazine Chauffeurs and Handlers Union, local 628, said that distributors "have not been handling the Mercury for nearly six months." He added that the only copies coming to Phila- delphia would be those coining directly to subscribers or dis- tributors by mail from the pub- lisher. He also disclosed that one dealer, who received copies by mail, refused to sell it after he had been informed of its contents.
