Warsen, outlining the background of the founding of the Historical So- ciety. Frank Barcus, whose book,• "Freshwater Fury," is reviewed by Henry D. Brown, of the De- troit Historical Museum; in one of the articles in this issue, is the author of an article explain- ing the seal of the society. Irving I. Katz wrote about Jewish - pioneers in Michigan; Dr. Irving I. Edgar about early Jewish physicians in Michigan, and Paul Masserman on the ar- rival of the SS Tamar in De- troit. Levinson will decide whether he plans to enter the Demo- cratic Party primary campaign as the successor to Gov. G. Men- nen Williams. Levinson, 54, is president of Franklin Mortgage Corp., and has been active in a wide va- riety of civic, communal and philanthropic undertakings. In a statement released this week, Levinson said he has been asked by many friends, members of veterans groups and Democratic Party members to file for the primary. In 1952, Levinson was nearly elected Michigan's national Democratic committeeman. He lost by only a slender margin.
