UN Human Rights Commission Acts
to Prevent Anti-Semitic Recurrence

GENEVA — The problem of eradication of racial prejudice, such
as was manifested in the recent anti-Semitic incidents in various
countries, was taken up Tuesday by the United Nations Commission
on Human Rights in session here. The commission is also discussing
prevention of discrimination and protection of national minorities.

The report recommending eradication of religious discrimination
and condemning the recent outbreaks of anti-Semitism was submitted
to the commission by a.,subcommission which met in New York in
January. This report- was accepted by all members of the subcom-
mission and will probably be approved also by the commission, fol-
lowing the debate which is expected to last several days.

as Elevating His State's Position

Israel's Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion concluded his American visit on
Wednesday, after holding a series of conferences in Washington and New York
with U. S. Government and UN officials and with German Chancellor Adenauer.
His visit is viewed as having brought encouraging results in his efforts to clarify
Israel's position, politically as well as economically. The Prime Minister left for
London where he conferred with Britain's Prime Minister Macmillan and other
British leaders

on Thursday.

NEW YORK—Prime Minister David Ben Gurion put - forth ' a three point pro-
gram of action for American Jewry, to help the State of Israel overcome the diffi-

culties of the coming years. The premier told a press conference at his hotel
Tuesday morning that he would like to see the Jews of America.:
1. Study Hebrew; 2. work to strengthen Israel, and 3. send the best of their

youth "who are not satisfied with television and Cadillacs" to come to Israel to
help build the country.
Ben-Gurion was in excellent spirit as he met about 50 representatives of the

Israeli and American Yiddish press. Conducting his press conference chiefly in
English, he Chided the Correspondents about their multi-lingual status, pointing.
out that he has heard Americans speak Hebrew, while Israelis used English.
Immediately after the conference, Ben-Gurion held a meeting with Philip M.
Kluttnick, chairman of the International Council of Bnai Brith. Later he had
tea with Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt, then he met with Mrs. Rose Halpern, acting
chairman of the Jewish Agency Executive.

Burying the Hatchet?

When West German Chancellor Kon-
rad Adenauer and Israel's Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion met in New York
Monday morning, the Israeli leader said the meeting confirmed his judgment that
"the Germany of today is not the Germany of yesterday." Adenauer said he was
"deeply moved" by the visit.
