Southfield.
The club, located on South-
field Rd., just south of 13 Mile,
began its active program for
600 member families on Thurs-
day.
Facilities of the beautiful
club building, which was de-
signed by architect Henry
Abrams, include a carpeted
main dining room, which will
seat 1,000 people; a plushly
furnished lobby,. lounges for
men and women, games rooms
and a bar.
The recreational facilities
feature separate men's and
women's health clubs, a beauti-
ful indoor pool with glass sides,
an outdoor swimming pool of
Olympic size and a wading
pool for the youngsters. Other
recreational facilities will be
added later, as the members
determine what additional ac-
tivities they require.
Sunday's f or m al opening
marked the completion of a 10-
month building program and
nearly three years of organiza-
tional effort.
Special awards of commenda-
tion were presented to Dr.
Morris E. Bachman, founding
president and now honorary
president; to Nathan Goldin,
chairman, and Sam Hechtman
and Jack Sylvan, co-chairmen
of the building committee; and
Samuel W. Leib, current presi-
dent.
