Art Institute to Exhibit Paintings
of Young Israelis March 2 to 27

"Art by Israeli Young Peo-
ple," an exhibition sponsored by
the Detroit Women's Division
of the American Jewish Con-
gress, will open March 2, at the
Detroit Institute of Arts, and
continue through March 27.
In the collection of 30 paint-
ings by youthful artists between
the ages of 12 and 18 is a variety
of expression ranging from the
abstract to the descriptive.

the Women's Auxiliary of the
United Hebrew Schools, to be
held at the Aaron DeRoy The-

S. N. Behrman's "The Cold
Wind and the Warm" will be
presented.
After the play, a reception
will be held for guests to meet
the players. Refreshments will

Beth El Young Adults
to Conduct Sabbath Service
Officers of the Temple Beth
El Young Adult Group will par-
ticipate in Sabbath services at
8:15 p.m. today. Assisting

Rovner Farein Sets
Banquet for Feb. 28
The 33rd annual banquet of
the Rovner Progressive Farein
will take place on Feb. 28, at
Zack's Catering, and is pre-
sented in honor o_ Mr. and Mrs.
Jacob Gubow and Mr. and Mrs
Abe Saginaw.
According to Isaac Gruskin,
newly-elected president of the
Farein, Gubow is the new vice-
president of the organization
and Saginaw is chairman of the
Rovner Free Loan Association.
Louis Silbert will serve as
master of ceremonies, an-
nounces Gruskin, who is also
chairman of the banquet. Spe-
cial invitations are being sent
to the families of the two
couples to be honored.
Rovner Farein has long been
known in the community for its
work in various local philan-
thropies and for its assistance
to many Israel causes.

The canvasses were done at
the Louise Wise Youth Center
in Jerusalem, which is main-
tained by the Congress Women.
Children attending the Center
come from all sections of Israel
and from all backgrounds. They
are chosen on the basis of their
interest and talent in art. •
The paintings, selected by
Judge Justine Wise Polier, a
past president of the AJ Con-
gress, on a recent trip to Israel,
were originally shown at the
Metropolitan Museum of Art in
New York.
In addition to the art work-
shop maintained at the Wise
Center in Jerusalem, other.
phases of the program include
dancing, music and ceramics.
The center is part of the In-
ternational Youth Hostel move-
ment, and is open to all chil-
dren of Israel—Arab, Christian
and Jew. •

Detroit Habonim
to Mark 25th Year
with Feb. 25 Reunion
In celebration of the 25th an-
niversary year of Habonim, La-
bor Zionist youth organization,
a reunion has been scheduled
for Feb. 27, in the Hayim Green-
berg Center, 19161 Schaefer.
Saadia Gelb, one of the ori-
ginal founders of Habonim, who
is a member of Kibbutz Kfar
Blum and currently in the
United States as a representa-
tive of Mapai, will be guest
speaker.
There will also be skits, sing-
ing, dancing and a social hour.

Plan Annual
Washington Trip
Formal opening of the Pina
Ivrith, a Hebrew corner spon-
sored jointly by the Jewish
Community Center and the
Kvutzah Ivrith, will open at 8
P.m., Saturday, at the Meyer's
Center staff library.
Following an informal recep-
tion, there will be a lecture by
Michael Deshe, an Israeli poet
currently on the staff of the
the Midrasha, on "The Land-
scape iii Israeli Poesy."
Deshe is the author of 10
volumes of poetry and prose,
with half of the books devoted
to children's works. His first
book, published in 1941, was
"Dawn." His most recent volume
is "Young Is the Earth," re-
leased in 1958.
The Pina, which is open to
the public each Saturday from
8 to 11 p.m., is intended for
people wishing to practice con-
versational Hebrew and to be
guided in their choice of read-
ing material.
Individual members of the
Kvutzah Ivrith will take turns
in conducting the Pina.
Michael Michlin is chairman,
and is assisted by Bernard
Isaacs, who will preside at the
first session, Morris Nobel,
Aaron Toback, Israel Elpern,
Dr. Naphtali Weisner, Norman
Ruttenberg and Meyer Mathis.
The series of Saturday night
programs was arranged by the
Kvutzah by Morris Nobel, cul-
tural chairman, and Joseph
Katz, president.
