Under the joint sponsorship
of B e t h Abraham Synagogue
and Louis Marshall Lodge of
Bnai Brith, a series of eight
Friday night forums will be
held in the synagogues as part
of its program of adult educa-
tion.
Featured at the first gather-
ing, to be held at 8:30 p.m.,
today, will be Gov. G. Mennen
Williams, who will speak on
"My Impressions of Israel."
A highlight of the first pro-
gram will be the presentation
by Gov. Williams to Leo Polk,
a member both of Bnai Brith
and Beth Abraham, of a cita-
tion for his blood donor activ-
ities over the years. Polk re-
cently gave his 300th pint of
blood to the Red Cross.
The Governor will be in-
troduced by Rabbi Israel I.
Halpern. Morrie Beider, of
Marshall Lodge, will preside.
Concluding the forum there
will be a question and answer
period followed by a social hour,
at which Israel Fuchs, music di-
rector for the synagogue, will
lead in sabbath songs.
Future speakers at the twice
monthly gatherings, according
to Albert Gutman, Marshall
Lodge president, will be Sol
Li t t m an, Anti-Defamation
League; Boris M. Joffe, Jewish
Community Council; and Jules
Doneson.
Beider is co-chairman of the
seminar series along with Dr.
Lawrence I. Yaffa, BB national
youth commissioner.

USY Honors Members

of SZ Junior Group

For "outstanding achieve-
ments" during the past year, the
Junior Congregation of Shaarey
Zedek Synagogue has received
an award from the United Syn-
angogue Youth.
The award, presented at the
recent USY convention in New
York City, capped a series of
honors won by members of the
Junior Congregation.
Individual citations for mem-
bers who met standards of
study, USY participation and
leadership were presented to
Jan Berris, Alan Grass, Gary
Helper, Leon Hochman, Alan
Schwartz, Mickey Shur a n d
Debbie Wolok.

The 22nd anniversary ban-
quet of the Council of Orthodox

Registration Open
for Adult Institute

Registration is still being ac-
cepted for the second half of
this year's Synagogue Adult In-
stitute, which began on Tues-
day night, at Beth Aaron Syna-
gogue.
Under the sponsorship of the
Conservative synagogues of the
Detroit area, the Institute is of-
fering several new courses, ac-
cording to Jay M. Rosenthal,
chairman.
Among the courses being
taught . are "Great' Passages
from the Prophets" by Rabbi
Morris Adler; laws and customs
of the Talmudic tractate "Mish-
nah Brakhot" by Rabbi Hyman
Agress; and "The Second Jew-
ish Commonwealth" by Noam
Shudofsky.
Classes begin at 7:30 p.m.,
each Tuesday, and are open to
the general public.

Cassin Gets Medallion

MEXICO CITY, (JTA)—The
Mexican Human Rights Front
has awarded a special medallion
to the French-Jewish statesman,
Rene Cassin, the noted crusader
for human rights. The medal-
lion is awarded by the organiza-
tion once each decade.
