low was conferred in person on
Ogden Reid, American Ambas-
sador to Israel, and in absentia
on ailing Rabbi Judah L. Mai-
mon, Israel's first Minister of
Religions.
Starting his response with a
greeting in Hebrew, Ambassa-
dor Reid extended the greet-
ings of President Eisenhower to
Bar Ilan University.
He said that "the President
asked me to express hiS inter-
est in Bar Ilan University."
Twenty-seven students .were
graduated from the University's
four departments: five in Juda-
ism, four_ in literature and lan-
guages, four in philosophy and
14 in natural science and mathe-
matics. The majority of the
gradnates-18 of the 27—were
girls. •
Rabbi Joseph H. Lookctein,
of New York, president of the
university's- board of trustees,
presided. He urged synthesis be-
tween the Judaic way of life
and modern science,. which, he
said, the university symbolized.

of Israel's Ambassador to the
United States, will be guest
speaker at an open meeting of
the Detroit Chapter of Hadas-
sah at 1:15 p.m., Jan. 12, at
Temple Israel.
The program will also include
a reception honoring Mrs. Har-
man, at which she will be in-
troduced to the wives of local
and state dignitaries who have
been invited to attend the af-
fair. Presidents of all Jewish
women's organizations also are
being extended an invitation.

group for girls between the
ages of 12 and 17, Whose
mothers are the wives or sisters
of a veteran.
Members are divided into
three groups,. according to age:
12 to 13, 14 to 15, and 15 to 17.
The program for the upcom-
ing year will include cosmetic
classes, cancer pad sewing

needy children, and JeWish folk
dancing.
