No Job Too Large - Too Small

NEW YORK, (JTA)--Vandals
ripped Torah scrolls and dam-
aged furniture at Yeshiva Rabbi
Chaim Berlin, one of the oldest
yeshivas in New York, Sunday.
Prayer shawls and books were
found scattered in • the syna-
gogue on the first floor of the
building, • while furniture was
overturned and damaged in the
classrooms on the upper -floors.
Police said the culprits, ap-
parently adolescents, gained
entry during the night by re-
moving a screen and breaking
a window of the synagogue. A
building custodian, who sleeps
on the premises, was not awak-
ened by any noise.
Police suggested the vandal-
ism may have been the work of
not more than two boys who
"thought they were hiving
fun." The area in which the
yeshiva is located was at one
time heavily populated by Jews.
The population had changed in
recent years.

U.S. Investors Seek to Buy
Israel Chemical Plant

JERUSALEM, (JTA) - A
group of American investors
headed by Sam Rothberg of
Peoria, Ill., may buy out the
government's share in Ferti-
lizers and Chemicals, Ltd., Is-
rael's largest chemical concern.
The investors, who began
negotiations several months
ago, have now forwarded a
guarantee deposit to insure
their option on the shares in-
volved and will resume final
negotiations soon, the report
said. Meanwhile, it was an-
nounced that the first export
shipment of 350 tons of liquid
ammonia produced by the firm
has left Haifa for the European
market.
