Synagogues, Schools Plan Full
Schedule of Hanukah Activities

The season for which chil-

ously been awaiting all year is
but a week away. Hanukah, the
holiday perhaps permeated
more than any other with the
warmth of Jewish comradeship,
will begin on the evening of
Dec. 25 with the lighting of the
first candle, and end Jan. 2
with the lighting of the last..
In celebration of this festive
week, the community's various
religious organizations are plan-

priate activities.
The Adas Shalom Synagogue
has started its holiday ball roll-

community-wide Hanukah home
decorating contest, sponsored
by the synagogue's Youth-Edu-

their living rooms for the holi-

of judges will tour the homes
of participants. Entries will be

judged on the basis of creativ-

the Youth Commission and Reli-
School committee. , Win-

Adas Shalam's Hebrew school
will also celebrate Hanukah
with its traditional all-school
assembly Sunday.
The main part of the program
will revolve around the fantasy
"The Magic Top," by Solis-
Cohen and Gerson. This play
will be presented by the sixth
grade students.
The traditional mass student
candle - lighting ceremony will
open the program. Also featur-

community singing led by the
school's music instructors.
The assemblies will begin at
10 and 11:30 a.m. Parents are
invited.
Children of all ages will be
the guests of Cong. Shaarey

Shomayim, 14200 W. 10 Mile,
Oak Park, at a Hanukah party
planned for 6:30 p.m., Tuesday,

in the synagogue.
The program will include en-
tertainment, games and refresh-
ments, with a group of songs to
be presented by children of the
synagogue's Simcha Music Cen-
ter, accompanied by its director,
Mrs. Sarah Holtzman, at the
piano.

will also be given by the stu-
dents, and there will be a holi-
day play given by sixth grade
girls from the Yeshivah Beth
Yehudah day school.
