Israel Drops Transportation Aid _

TEL AVIV, (JTA)—Govern-
ment subsidies to transport
cooperatives will - be cancelled
at the beginning of next year,
making inevitable a country-
wide increase in bus fares, it
was learned here. - The decision
to cancel the subsidies, made
by the Ministerial Economic
Committee, will mean an in-
crease in fares ranging from
12 to 15 percent.
Three encouraging achieve-
ments in the economic field
recorded this year may prove
1959 to be the best economic
year for Israel since the coun-

Pointing out that the Govern-
ment fiscal policy. providing
for $6 billion in investments
already. bearing fruit, was re-
sponsible for the situation,
Horowitz said, however, that
even with this rate of progress,
it would still take 10 years for
Israel to reach economic in-
dependence.

Nasser's Neutralism Policy

Abafemi Awolowo, the premier
of Western Nigeria, has bitterly
criticized the policy of neu-
trality between East and West
as pursued by President Nasser

LONDON, (JTA) —The Re-
nault automotive concern has
promised to invest 8,000,000
pounds ($22,400,000) in a new
plant for construction and as-
sembly of Renault cars in
Egypt, the Cairo- Radio has
reported.
Renault recently cancelled a
contract for assembly of its
Dauphine cars at the Kaiser-
Frazer plant in Haifa, Israel,
in order to secure removal of
its name from the Arab boy-
cott of firms doing business
with Israel.
The Cairo Radio said Renault
representatives in that city had
stated that Renault had not
only .halted ti.e car assembly
operations in Haifa, but had
also broken all its other com-
mercial ties with Israel.
