Peerce Delights
large Audience

Jan Peerce, tenor of the
Metropolitan Opera, had the
time of his life Sunday evening,
when he appeared in concert
at the Ford Auditorium. and
the large audience shared the
enjoyment of the delightful eve-
ning with him.
Peerce appeared here under
auspices of the Men's Club and
Sister hood of Congregation
Emanu-El.
He not only sang operatic
selections, but also included in
his program liturgical and Yid-
dish songs. He not only sang,
but explained the Yiddish songs
and spoke on the value of mus-
ical entertainment for syna-
gogue and other groups.
The audience enjoyed his
brief speeches as well as the
folk songs, and asked for more
and more—so that he sang five
encores.
Inviting intimate association
with the audience, Peerce told
of his friendship with the Ger-
shenson family and, on the oc-
casion of the wedding anniver-
sary of Elaine and Samuel Ger-
shenson, he concluded the pro-
gram by singing "Because."
He was at his best in the
operatic selections and he was
given an ovation when he in-
cluded the Aria from Pagglai-
acci among his encores.
