and has been retained to direct
the 1960 International Freedom
Festival which is scheduled for
June 26-July 4, 1960. The Fes-
tival celebrates Canada's Do-
minion Day and the United
States Independence Day.

NORMAN R. ATKINS, former
Detroiter now living in Cali-
fornia, announced his associa-
tion with the law firm of Gor-
don and Weinberg, in Los An-
geles. Atkins was formerly an
assistant United States attor-
ney at Los Angeles, acting as a
prosecutor of federal criminal
cases as well as handling civil
matters. He lives with his wife
(formerly Charlotte Lehrman,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sam-
uel Lehrman of Detroit) at 5418

in our own country," Dr. Prinz
declared. However, he added
that "the concept of Jewish
peoplehood—the unity of the
Jewish people around the world
—must stand as the basic prin-
ciple of Jewish identification
and as a motivating factor of
Jewish communal life here and
abroad."
In resolutions adopted at the
closing session of their four-day
convention, the American Jew-
ich Congress women called for
vigorous action to keep religiop
out of the public schools, and
urged the U.S. Government to
denounce the Arab boycott "as
a measure of economic warfare
constituting a threat to inter-
national peace."
They also asked that all U.S.
treaties and executive agree-
ments with foreign powers bar
racial and religious discrimina-
tion against American citizens.

The deep interest that was
aroused by the address of Ger-
ald Dewhirst, vice president of
the National Bank of Detroit,
at the luncheon of the Jewish
Affairs Luncheon Club at the
Jewish Center, Nov. 18, has re-
sulted in plans to publish the
Detroit banker's complete re-
port on his trip to Israel.
