A Mumford English teacher,
Mrs. Annette MacKinnon, ap-
peared in Wayne State Uni-
versity's recent presentation of
"Allegro," and sang two songs
in each of the five presenta-
tions of the Rogers and Ham-
merstein musical. She has also
performed in other WSU per-
formances, at Northland play-
house, and at World Stage
Theater.
Suzanne Schecter and Roger
Kukes received first and third
honorable mentions, respective-
ly, in the United N'ations poster
contest. The theme for the
posters was "What the United
Nations Means to Me."
Mumford's harriers claimed
the East Side Championship in
wintry weather on Oct. 27.
Mumford barely nosed out all
challengers as it continued its
season-long winning streak with
the 39-37 victory.
On Nov. 4, the all-city cross-
country meet was held. The
three top teams in each league,
Mumford, Denby and Pershing,
Redford, Northwestern and
Cody, vied for top honors over
the rain soaked course. Walter
Foreman, Elvin Roper, and Jan-
arvus Sanders made all-city for
Mumford, finishing 11th, 12th,
and 15th respectively.
Fourteen Mumford students
contributed 563 volunteer hours
to Sinai Hospital, the TB and
Health Society and YWCA last
summer. The students were: Iris
Becker, Barbara Katz, Susan
Kobel, Sherry Kovan, Andrea
Lavine, Natalie Levitt, Rhea
Lewis, Karen Metzer, Barbara
Miro, Karen Mitchell, Charna
Norman, Alycia Rabinowitz, Di-
ane Stein, and Linda Zitomer.
A total of 26 students from
Mumford participated in the
volunteer group.
The. semi-armual clothing
drive • will continue through
Nov. 20. All students are asked
to bring old clothing they have
at home to the drive under
the direction of Sheila Fishman
and Phil Maltz, co-chairman of
the Student Council service
committee. The drive is spon-
sored by the Detroit Public
Schools Social Service Commit-
tee in co-operation with the
Volunteers of America.
Under the supervision of Max
Gross, seven Mumfordites are
studying chemical and biologi-
cal problems after school. The
members are David Chesluk,
Michael Gross, John Lusk, Alan
Katz, Phillip Parker, Harvey
Pianin, and Ricky Waller.
A toy drive, held last Friday
to provide toys for mentally
retarded children, netted a
large amount of toys for the
children.
The Junior Congregation of
Shaarey Zedek will hold a
dance, the Harvest Hop, Satur-
day night, at the branch build-
ing on Seven Mile, west of
Schaefer.
