JWB Mops Budget of $2 Million for 1960

Ex-Detroiters' Venture a Big Hit

Ready Four New Israel Supermarkets
After Success of First Super-Sol Store

Four new supermarkets will
soon be built in Israel by Super-
Sol, Ltd., as a result of the suc-
cess of the first store, located
at '79 Ben Yehudah Street, in
Tel Aviv.
After a year of operation,
which bettered even the most
optimistic estimates, the store
has placed 250,000 shares of
common stock, at $11 a share,
on the American market.
The supermarket operation
was born in Detroit a little
over two years ago, when
Alan Feinberg and Herbert
Hordes, both native Detroit-
ers, approached a group of in-
terested food people.
Among those who backed the
plan were Nathan and John
Lurie, Tom and Al Borman and
Paul Zuckerman.
At a recent meeting of the
board of directors of Super-Sol,
in Ottawa, Can., its president
Bertram Loeb, Canadian super-
market executive, indicated that
the Israel store had a dollar
turnover of $6.25 per square
foot per week.
This compares to the Amer-
ican average of $3.50 which,
Loeb said, is generally con-
sidered satisfactory. Sales of
$2,650,000 were recorded for
the year by Super-Sol, he added.
After setting aside ample re-
serves, the directors announced
a quarterly dividend of 22 cents
per share.
Immediate expansion plans of
Super-Sol will include a ware-
house of 35,000 square feet; an
18,000 square foot store in
Ramat Gan; a 13,000 square
foot store in Givat Chaim; a

Wesleyan Fraternity
Quits National Chapter

MIDDLETOWN, Conn., (JTA)
—A second Wesleyan Univer-
sity chapter of a national frater-
nity has voted to end its na-
tional affiliation because of dis-
crimination issues.
The Wesleyan chapter of
Alpha Chi Rho voted to with-
draw after the national frater-
nity refused to abolish a clause
in its ritual which required all
members to accept Christian
theology. Chapter officials said
that while the national frater-
nity did not bar non-Christians,
"a non-Christian certainly could
not take part in the ritual."
Earlier, the Wesleyan chapter
of Sigma Chi voted to quit the
national fraternity because the
parent organization restricted
membership to "bona fide white
students."
