sensitivity

SENSITIVITY provides a performer with greater in-
sight into a work of art and more readily enables him
to relate that art_ to his listeners. It is this essential
quality that helped SHIMON MISHORY rise to the
position of Concert-Master of the Tel Aviv Symphony
Orchestra.

Shimon Mishory will appear with mezzo-soprano Jennie
Tourel at the 27th Balfour Concert on Saturday, 8:30
P.M., November 14 at the Ford Auditorium. It is through
your efforts that the important work of our Kfar Silver
Agricultural Institute and Children's Village in Israel
can be continued.

on the seventh day; wherefore
the Lord blessed the seventh

second set of the Ten Command-
ments (Deuteronomy 5:12-15)
the Bible says: "And thou shalt
remember that thou wast a serv-
ant in the land of Egypt, and
the Lord thy G-d brought thee
out . . . therefore the Lord thy
G-d commanded thee to keep
the Sabbath day." Maimonides
(Guide for the Perplexed) notes
these two different reasons and
explains that the Sabbath is
a double blessing for Israel.
The fact that G-d rested on this
day makes it one of distinction
and thus the day helps us to
confirm the theory of creation.
This is what the phrase "A
memorial of the Creation" sig-
nifies in the Kiddush of the
Sabbath. The fact that the Lord
brought us freedom focuses the
purpose of the Sabbath as an

considers the purpose of the
Sabbath to be that of calling
attention to the existence of a
divine agent continually acting
with will and exercising provi-
dence.
