They are Sheila Fish- man, Anne Jacobowitz, Susan Kobel, Vivian Shevitz and Judy Stamell. One of the girls will be selected to spend next sum- mer in Europe. Last Friday an AFS assem- bly was held by the Student Council program committee. Speakers included C. E. Frazer Clark, principal; Richard Leach, chairman; Janet Hall, Elna Vorberg, Inger Bjorkquist and Don Sandweiss. Janet and Don spoke of their trips to Germany last summer. Janet was spon- sored by the Michigan Council of Churches and Don by AFS. Elna and Inger spoke of their first impressions of America and American life. The Mumford track team con- tinued its winning ways as it stomped Central last Wednes- day. Finishing in the top ten for Mumford were Elvin Roper, Walter Foreman. Janarvus Sanders, Stanley Ruby, Ken Burnlee, Cardell Norris, Ken Jackson, and Steve Mallerman. Police Chief Sorry for Slur on Jews PHILADELPHIA, (JTA) — The Daily Pennsylvanian, stu- dent newspaper at the Univer- sity of Pennsylvania, reports that it has received an apology from Thomas J. Gibbons, Phila- delphia Police Commissioner, for using the phrase "Jewish appearance" in a police flyer posted around the university after a stabbing in the area. The apology was received after the student newspaper protested in an editorial . that the use of such a term was not in the public interest and so nebulous that it might even be applied to Abdel Nasser, President of the United Arab Republic. The Police Commissioner said, in his reply: "Personally, and on behalf of the entire Police Department, will you please accept my humble apologies for- the injudicious wording of our recent wanted circular." Israel Asks UN for More Technical Aid UNITED NATIONS, N.Y., (JTA)—Increased United Na- tions appropriations for techni- cal assistance have been advo- cated here by Israel. Miss Hava Hareli, Israel representative on the General Assembly's Eec- nomic and Financial committee, declared that higher allocations would be justified "in view of the real need which had been shown by requests for aid." "The UN technical assistance projects in Israel," Miss Hareli said, "have been carried out successfully, with Israeli per- sonnel taking over from experts previously provided by the United Nations." The Israeli delegation pointed out that in recent years, Israel has con- tributed an increasing number of experts to aid technical assistance programs in other countries.
