animosity toward Israel are
continuing in Morocco, follow-
ing the severance by the Moroc-
can authorities of postal c•m-

The reports bring out the fol-
lowing facts:
1. In the town of Meknes, a
Jewish merchant, Sala in o n
Benamrou, was sentenced by a
local court to one year's im-
prisonment for having an Israel
calendar hung in his store.

Ben-Gurion Takes Day
Off for 73rd Birthday

TEL AVIV, (JTA) — David
Ben-Gurion, Israel's prime min-
ister and leader of the Mapai
Party, took a day off from the
cares of government and the
heat of a national election cam-
paign on Monday to observe
his 73rd birthday in the village
of Sde Boker, in the Negev, the
southern desert.
Ben-Gurion received the visit-
ing prime minister of the Re-
public of Chad and told him if
Israel could help his young state
in any . way, -it would "be only
too glad to do it."
An official delegation of the
secretariat of the Mapai Party
also journeyed to Sde Boker to
greet Mr. and Mrs. Ben-Gurion.
The Ben-Gurions announced
that the birthday celebration
would be combined with the
second anniversary of the Beer-
sheba Institute of Arid Zane
Research. The Premier, who or-
ganized the institute, said he
would spend a day there and in-
spect all its activities.

3. The Moroccan government
has, by special decree, pro-
hibited the introduction, sale or
distribution in Morocco of the
book "Israel," published in
Lausanne, Switzerland, by a
Swiss publishing house.
The Jews in Morocco are re-
ported to be greatly disturbed
over the severe sentence im-
posed upon the Meknes Jewish
merchant, as well as over the
ban on blue-white skull caps.
These extreme manifestations
against Israel are taken as an
indication that the Moroccan
authorities are determined to
bring an end to any display of
interest in Israel by Jews in
Morocco.
(A formal protest against
the stoppage by Morocco of
postal communications with Is-
rael, was filed by Israel with
the Universal Postal Union at
Berne, Switzerland. JTA reports
from Jerusalem that the protest
was in the form of a note which
Israel asked to be circulated
among members of the Union . )

JERUSALEM — The Israel-
Jordan Mixed Armistice Com-
mission was to hold an emerg-
ency session on Thursday to
discuss the Jordanian complaint
that Israel allegedly expelled
more than 100 Beduin from the
Negev into Jordan.
The commission held a brief
formal session Monday, but the
results of the United Nations
investigation was not yet avail- N
able. Israel sources deny that
any Israel Beduin have been
expelled to Jordan. The United
Arab Republic two weeks ago
lodged a , similar complaint with
the Israel-Egyptian Mixed Ar-
mistice Commission, after a
clash between a group of Be-
duin and an Israel army patrol
investigating the murder of an
Israel officer near the Egyptian
border.
It was indicated here that the
Beduin involved were the sev-
eral thousand nomads living
most of the time in Egypt or
Jordan who often cross into the
Negev with the herds while
grazing in Arab territory.
Israel normally does not in-
