Couple Wed 50 Years,
Death Takes Husband

Death last week took Samuel
Helfman, who, only last month
had celebrated with Mrs. Heit-
man the couple's golden wed-
ding anniversary.
Mr. Helfman, whose Detroit
address was 18034 Indiana, died
Oct. 14 in Mi-
ami Beach,
Fla., where
the Helfmans
stayed during
a good part of
the year.
Born in Rus-
sia, Mr. Heit-
man had re-
sided in De-
troit for 53
years. He was
Mr. Helfman active in nu-
merous philanthropic endeav-
ors, and was among the found-
ers of Adas Shalom Synagogue
He was a partner with his
sons in the Atlas and Filmore
Lumber Companies. Among his
many associations, he was a
member of the Hebrew Benevo-
lent Society, United Hebrew
Schools and was active in Israel
Bond drive efforts.
Besides his wife, Bertha, he
leaves four sons, Philip, Jerome.
Leroy and Charles; four daugh
ters, Mrs. Sidney -Pozen, Mrs.
George Kollenberg, Mrs. Abra-
ham Lupovitch and Mrs. Mau-
rice Shacket; and 24 grand
children.

Naumburg Dies at 91

Walter W. Naumburg, re-
tired New York banker and
music patron, who spent his
fortune aiding young corn-
posers and musicians, died in
New York Saturday at the age
of 91.
His father, Elkan Naumburg,
inspired the introduction of
the Central Park concerts in
New York in 1905 by contrib-
uting the Mall to New York
City.
