50-Star U.S. Flag for
Scouting's 50th Year

Dr. Herman Jacobs, director of the Hillel Foundation at
the University of Michigan, this week expressed his conviction
that there is a growing interest in Jewish spiritual and cultural
programs among Jewish students. As proof he pointed to the
fact that more than 1,500 of the U. of M. Jewish students
attended services on Kol Nidre night. Hundreds also partici-
pated in the Yom Kippur day services which were held
separately for Orthodox-Conservative and Reform groups. This,
Dr. Jacobs said, was a record set in spite of the fact that many
students attended Yom Kippur services in congregations in
their home cities. The above photograph shows the overflow
attendance at the Kol Nidre services at the Hillel Foundation
in Ann Arbor.

Tackles Parents Queries

A 50-star American flag was
presented to Cong. Bnai Moshe
by cub scout Thomas L. Lowe
on the eve of the first Yom
Kippur service in the congre-
gation's new sanctuary in Oak
Park.
The flag was a gift of Thomas'
parents, the Maxwell L. Lowes,
of 26384 Humber, Huntington
Woods, in honor of the 50th
anniversary of Boy Scouts in
America.
Lowe, a 30-year veteran
Scouter, is a member of District
No. 1 executive committee of
the Detroit area Boy Scout
council, representing Scouts of
the Jewish faith in the largest
Scouting district in the U.S.
He is also committee chairman
of Cub Pack R.O. No. 11.
