Kashdan-Kav Rites
Planned for April 3

MISS SHIRLEY KASHDAN

Mr. and Mrs. Louis Kash-
dan, of Cherrylawn Ave., an-
nounce the engagement of
their daughter, Shirley, to Mar-
vin Kay, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Louis Kay, of Washburn Ave.
Miss Kashdan is a junior in
Wayne State University's col-
lege of education. Plans are
being made for an April 3
wedding.

JWV, Auxiliary
Seeking Members

The 14 posts and 16 ladies'
auxiliaries affiliated with the
Department of Michigan Jew-
ish War Veterans are currently
conducting a membership drive
for all unaffiliated veterans and
their families.
Post members are being of-
fered a variety of prizes for
bringing in prospective mem-
bers or re-signing old members.
A recent membership contest
winner was past national com-
mander Harry T. Madison.
Grand prize in the competition
will be a 21" portable television
set, according to Gerson Marder,
Department senior vice-presi-
dent.
Teas, parties and other spe-
cial events, labeled as "Guest-
Togethers," are planned by
auxiliaries as they embark on
their phase of the membership
drive.
Wives, mothers, sisters and
other immediate relatives - of
Jewish war veterans are eligi-
ble for membership in JWVA,
Mrs: Seymour Kraft, vice-presi-
dent of membership.
In cooperation with the First
Galician Society, the JWV De-
partment has arranged a home-
coming party honoring Ben
Shiffirian on his return from
Israel.
Shiffman, the only Spanish-
American War Veteran in the
JWV, will be feted at 9 p.m.,
Oct. 28, at Beth Abraham Syna-
gogue. All JWV members and
friends of Shiffman are invited
to attend.

PISGAH CHAPTER is plan-
ning an afternoon of games at
12:30 p.m., Wednesday, in the
Hayim Greenberg Center, 19161
Schaefer. Mrs. Leonard Sims,
past president of Pisgah and
the District Lodge and mem-
ber of the Supreme Lodge ex-
ecutive board, will be guest
speaker. Mrs. Phillip Kramer,
president, and Mrs. Carl Gould,

Tenth Child Born to
Mr.-Mrs. M. Simon;
Is Their 6th Daughter

Mr. and Mrs. Markus Simon,
of 2526 Longfellow, became the
parents of their tenth child on
Oct. 14.
They decided to name their
sixth daughter Eisheth Chayil-
Woman of Valor—all the other
children possessing Hebrew
names taken from Scriptures.
They had not yet decided, on
Wednesday, on an English name
for the newborn child.
Their oldest daughter is 18 1/2.

Films of the 500-mile Indian-
apolis Speedway race, featur-
ing Paul Goldsmith, driver of
the car which placed fifth, will
be shown by IVAN S. BLOCH
LODGE on Monday evening, at
Carpenter's Hall. Friends are
invited. A Simhat Torah wiener
roast is planned for Oct. 25, at
Koepplinger's Park, W. 8 Mile,
east of Greenfield. All couples
are invited to attend.

Center Slates Dance,
Chorus, - Basketball

A series of new activities is
being organized by the Jewish
Center, 18100 Meyers, for the
coining season.
. Israeli and folk dances, led
by Earl Klinge, and square
dances, led. by Burton Tobey,
will be held at 8 p.m. on alter-
nate Sundays with Israeli and
folk sessions beginning Oct. 18
and square dances beginning
Oct. 25.
J u n i o r, tween and teen
choruses to sing Israeli and
Jewish folk and religious songs,
besides music of American
Jewish composers, are being
organized. Membership is still
open.
To meet weekly from 4 to
. 5:30 p.m. — junior group on
Mondays, teens, Wednesday and
tweens, Thursday—the choruses
are conducted by Miriam Samet,
under director Julius Chajes.
Initially, Hanukah programs are
being prepared.
A program of basketball tour-
naments for juniors, tweens,
teens and adults will be offered
this winter. Registration is now
open at the physical education
department. The junior basket-
ball program will feature a ban-
tam league for boys 9 and 10,
and a junior league for boys 11
and 12.

Sanford -T. Kaplan, son of Mr.

LZO Branch 11 Sukkah
to Be Family Affair

Branch 11 of the Labor Zion-
ist Organization, with the help
of children and husbands, will
build a sukkah at 3 p.m., Sun-
day, in the back yard of the
Morris Lifshays, 24140 Marlowe
Ct., Oak Park.
Fathers and older boys will
construct the framework. The
children will make paper deco-
rations, to be hung on the suk-
kah along with real fruits and
vegetables. Lunches to be eaten
in the sukkah will be provided
by the mothers.
