UM Students Reveal
June Wedding Plans

Mr. and Mrs. William Hordes left on Thursday for a month's
tour of Israel where they will visit, in Herzliah, with their chil-
dren, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Hordes, and grandchildren.
Detroiters who attended the Bar Mitzvah of Larry Pianka,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Irving Pianka (Dorothy Rubin, of Detroit),
of Jersey City, N.J., were Mx. and Mrs. Sam Rubin, Mr. and Mrs.
Irving Stern and children, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Gold and children
and Mr. and Mrs. Mike Adler.
Mr. and Mrs. Alex Licht, formerly of Leslie Ave., are now
residing in their new home at 19819 Strathmoor.
Mr. and Mrs. Edwin I. Michaelson, of Fairfield Avenue, have
as their house guests Mrs. Owen J. Akulin (Judy Michaelson),
and her daughters, Terri and Lori, of Philadelphia.
Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Sulkes, of Cherrylawn Ave., recently
celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary at a family gathering.

Temple Israel Cubs Plan

5,200 'Sweetest Day' Gifts
Cheer Orphans, Shut-Ins

More than 5,200 orphans and
other children, sick and aged
persons at 30 institutions in and
around Detroit will be surprised
with a gift Saturday.
The presents are tokens of
Sweetest Day, an annual occa-
sion to "make someone happy."
They are being distributed by
the Southeastern Michigan
Sweetest Day Committee
through the cooperation of
local business.

Mrs. C. Harry Malbin, of 1299
M u l b err y, Mt. Clemens, a
dynamic young grandmother,
veteran civic leader and edu-
cator, will serve as general
chairman of the Mt. Clemens
annual United Jewish Appeal
campaign, to get underway at
a community-wide rally Nov. 7,
at the Colonial Hotel.
A native of Columbus, 0.,
Mrs. Malbin attended the Co-
lumbus Normal School and
Capital University before set-
tling in Mt. Clemens shortly
after her marriage in 1925.
Upon Mr. Malbin's death sev-
eral years later, she joined the
faculty of the Roseville Public
School System to support her
family of two adopted children.
Besides her teaching and home-
making jobs, she devoted her-
self to many civic and religious
affairs in which she held sev-
eral offices, including president
of the Mt. Clemens League of
Women Voter s, president of
the local chapter of Hadassah,
national board member of the
Jewish Welfare Board, surgical
dressing chairman of the Amer-
ican Red Cross, public relations
chairman for the USO Council,
commissioner of the local Girls.
Scouts Council and principal of
the Beth Tefilath Moses Sunday
School.

Dr. and Mrs. Henry Margolis,
of 8728 W. Outer Dr., announce
the engagement of their daugh-
ter, Judith Sylvia, to Barry
Nelson Merenoff, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Samuel Merenoff, of
Atlantic Beach, Long Island,
N. Y.
The bride-to-be is a junior
at the University of Michigan.
Her fiance, who holds a BA
degree in architecture from
U. of M., is now working to-
ward his master's degree in
that field. He is affiliated with
Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity.

Review on 'Ben-Gurion'

The Council Activities Center
for Senior Adults, sponsored by
the Detroit section of the Na-
tional ° Council of Jewish
Women, is planning, as one of
the highlights of its forthcom-
ing season, a book review on
"Ben-Gurion" by Robert St.
John, to be given Wednesday,
by Dr. Leon Fram, spiritual
leader of Temple Israel. Rabbi
Fram is secretary of the Detroit
Public Library Commission.
The Council Activities Cen-
ter, 8432 W. McNichols, is open
from 1 to 4 p.m. every Monday
and Wednesday. Mrs. Irving
Kramer is chairman of the
Center.
