with the giant airlines. But it wasn't an easy
tlinth ,

When El .Al Israel Airlines was first estab-
lished in 1949, right after Independence, we never
dreamed that it would become a first-line inter-
national carrier within 10 years. (Actually, the
airline was originally set up because air trans-
portation was desperately needed to bring the
immigrants to Israel from the camps and places
of refuge, and there was simply no one else to

do the job,)
Today, El Al is a factor in air transport not
only to Israel, but between New York and London,
Paris, Rome as well. It may surprise you to learn
that a large number of our passengers this past
season were people who chose El Al to get to

Europe.

Our jet-powered Britannia service has won the
respect of the civil aviation world for quality of
navigation, airmanship and maintenance. Espe-
cially impressive is El Al's on-time performance

respect : the efficiency and helpfulness of its servi
ice to the passenger and travel agent.
You have to have something special to survive
among the giants, let alone grow. _ El Al has,
