An Open Letter from the Chairman:

Urges Support for .Beth Yehudah Schools

Dear Friend

This is the tenth year that the Businessmen's Council of the Beth Yehudah Schools has
cooperated with the Synagogue Council in bringing to Detroit one of the truly outstanding
events of the social season. The dinner is a sumptious repast, and the evening's entertainment
a treat that is a richly-rewarding cultural experience. This year's dinner and show will be no
exception. Already we have obtained the services of Henry Van Horn and his "Magic in Music
Orchestra," known to the community as the old Jules Klein Orchestra. We are on the verge
now of signing one of America's most popular entertainers as our guest artist, and an an-
nouncement will soon be forthcoming.

Of course, it is No secret that the annua I Dinner and Show is presented as a means of
showing our appreciation for the contributions of our fellow-Detroiters to the maintenance and
growth of the Beth Yehudah Schools, which now encompass all areas of the city and suburbs.
Together, we realize that the Beth Yehudah Schools is a community school which is building
leadership, developing character and educating scholars who will, in not too many years, take
their plaCes as Rabbis, Educators and Laymen with a deep understanding of the tasks that lie
ahead in Jewish life.

We are all called upon to support many institutions—all of them important. But we must
begin to realize that the Beth Yehudah Schools is the only LOCAL institution which seeks
funds not available through any other channel or through any reglarly-conducted campaign.

Support must come from somewhere, and, here, as in no other cause, we look for assist-
ance to the Jews of Detroit—responsible local citizens who understand the vital need for edu-
cating a generation of scholarly and discern ing young people
for the future. It is not the
other fellow's contribution that will do the job—it is YOURS.
