What are the precious things for which we pray as
the dawn of another year approaches? Shall it be riches,
and fame, and health, and a fair measure of joy? Sun-
light only — and no troubled skies to darken our vision?
Happiness not marred by sorrow?
Ah yes . . . a little of life's enduring satisfaction. But
far more — we yearn for strength and faith: that we
may look with courageous hearts to whatever the to-
morrows bring . . . for fortitude of spirit and integrity
of mind.
Let us, we pray, be worthy of the freedom we enjoy,
of the flag that protects our homes and lives. Let us be
increasingly loyal to our institutions, to the sanctities that
give us moral stature. Come what may . .. thus shall a
free family of men face the occasional shadows and earn
the Peace that is the possession of the children of the
race.
Thus let us march from the passing year to the new
. united in purpose . . . consecrated in faith . . . humble
and loyal to the Truth that is our heritage.

Eisenhower Acclaims Brotherhood
Week as Advancing Hopes of Man

As Americans and as fellow
human beings, we share a com-
mon brotherhood, President
Eisenhower declared in accept-
ing the honorary chairmanship
of Brotherhood Week which
will be observed next Feb. 21-28,
under the sponsorship of the
National Conference of Chris-
tians and Jews.
Announcement of the Presi-
dent's leadership was made by
Cornelia Otis Skinner, actress
and author, who is serving as
national chairman of Brother-
hood Week. Simultaneously,
Miss Skinner released the
President's message to the
organization.

and around the world, he added,
"can advance the highest hopes
of the family of man."
The celebration next Febru-
ary marks the 27th observance
of Brotherhood Week, first es-
tablished in 1933.
The complete text of Presi-
dent Eisenhower's message for
Brotherhood Week follows:
"My parents had seven
sons; as one of them I was
highly favored in the oppor-
tunities—and the tests and
trials—that come to brothers.
"A brother is a most wel-
come addition to the family
circle. With him comes the
great joy of fraternal com-
radeship. With him also come
the first trials of competition
and fair play. But these trials
are met—indeed borne -gladly
in the loyalty and under-
standing . which bind brothers
together. .

Just before public schools
opened this month, airports all
over the nation witnessed scenes
like this, as the Jewish National
Home for Asthmatic Children
at Denver sent home its largest
class, after an average stay of
18 to 24 months. This made
room . for . other intractably
asthmatic children, whose doc-
tors certified that their tiny
patients would either succumb
soon or linger painfully as
hopeless pulmonary cripples
unless accepted by the free
hospital-home.

Sincere Best Wishes

For A Happy New Year

Isenberg, Newman and Company

A HAPPY
NEW YEAR

N

On the threshold of a new year we may well pause

and glance back at the past . . . to learn from it.
_ This season, too, encourages us to look ahead
to

.

new accomplishments and to anticipate what is
ahead as man strives to improve his lot, and the lot
of his neighbour, in our busy world.

We in America have much to be thankful for. As

we compare our way of life with that which has

been forced upon our less fortunate brothers, we

may well combine our wish, "A Happy New Year,'

with our devout thanks for the many blessings we

enjoy.
