Six years ago Brother Bruno was sent by his order to Israel, and he felt immediately that he had come to stay. "This is where I wish to spend the rest of my days working for closer rela- tions between Christians and Jews." Last year he enrolled at the Hebrew University to study Hebrew—of which he already has a fluent command — and Jewish history. His particular field of interest is the history of Jewish-Christian relations in 1 all periods; he will not hesitate to point out that his own Order in centuries gone by played an important part in the Inquisi- tion, producing from its ranks the Spanish Grand Inquisitor Torquemada, and that a form of reparation may be justified. At the Hebrew University Brother Bruno came to hear "the other side of the story," and he is full of appreciation for the objective way in which this subject is being treated by the teachers of Jewish history Givath Ram. At the moment Brother Bruno is the only Dominican at the Hebrew University—or in Israel for that matter—but he hopes that two more friars of his Or- der will join him shortly. One of them wishes to study Jewish philosophy and the other Bib- lical Hebrew. When Brother Bruno left France for Israel he asked his Superior for permis- sion to change his formal title of "Father 'L to "Brother." "After all," he declared, "I h ardly feel like a father to the eople of Israel, but I do feel 01 1 ike a brother to one and all i n this country."
