CURTIS WE DELIVER — CALL UN 1-9645 q...2.2.51_9—SULSULSIISL G S By ALAN SCHWARTZ The Mumford Mustangs open- ed their grid season last Friday with a 24-7 victory over Cass Tech. Mumford played at Pershing yesterday and will host Denby next Friday. This year Mumford is again privileged to have two foreign exchange students, both girls. Elna Vorberg, from Hamburg, Germany, was one of 165 stu- dents brought over by the Mich- igan Council of Churches. She lives with Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Raunio. The American Field Service sponsored the other girl, Inger Bjorkquist. Inger, who comes from Stockholm, Sweden, is staying with Mr. and Mrs. Abe Lupovitch. Both girls were awed by the size of the school, for in their home towns, there are only about a thousand pupils in the average school. The flexibility of programs and subjects also surprised them. In Europe, both girls take 12 subjects, with a different schedule for each day of the week. They attend school six days a week. Instead of tak- ing one or possibly two foreign languages as we do here, Elna takes three and Inger four. Neither girl will receive credit for her year of schooling abroad, but the thrill and ex- citement of coming to America more than make up for this loss. The Mumford Drama Club un- der the direction of Earl Mat- thews will present "I Remem- ber Mama," the school play, Nov. 19 and 20. Starring in the performance are Larry White, Marcia Katz and Diane Stern. Paula Brose is student director. The Mumford Student Coun- cil is busy planning M Week, Oct. 26 -29.
