Rnai Moshe Opens
Series in Suburbs
Three cultural events have
been planned this month by

sermon by Rabbi Milton Arm,

Synagogue will hear an address
by Martin Adolf, New Jersey
Zionist and Bnai Brith writer
and speaker, on Rosh Hashanah.
The second day will be de-
voted by Adolf to appeals at
nearby Cong. Shomrey Emunah.
Adolf received a Talmudic
education at the Academies of
Pressburg and Galanta, and,
later, at the Jewish Theological
Seminary. He also studied at
the Conservatory of Music in
Prague.
An alumnus of Columbia Uni-
versity, he holds a law degree
from the Brooklyn Law School.
Col. Lahat will speak at an
Adas Shalom leadership meet-
ing planned for Thursday eve-
ning, in the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Samuel Simmer, 18273
Fairfield.
A veteran of the War of Lib-
eration, Col. Lahat is a career
officer who began- training with
the Haganah. He received his
flight training in this country.
During the Sinai Campaign, he
served as deputy commander of
the Israel Air Force.
The Israeli military leader is
currently in the country to take
special courses in management,
in connection with his • Air
Force duties, at Columbia Uni-
versity.
Mrs. Natalie Hoffman, newly-
elected president of the Oak
Park Branch of the United He-
brew Sc _ hools, announces . , the
season's opening meeting at 8
p.m., Oct. - 28, at the . 10 Mile
branch of the Jewish Center.
An open house is -planned, with
refreshments being served.
Other officers elected to ad-
minister with Mrs. Hoffman are
Mesdames Eve Engleberg, Fre-
da Cohen and Doreen Raskin,
vice-presidents; Eva Kohn and
Ruth Black, secretaries; Doro-
thy Cohen, treasurer; and Rae
Goodman, teacher adviser.
The traditional Simhat Bet
Hashoevah program, held by
the Detroit Ohapter of the Miz-
rachi-Hapoel Hamizrachi during
the Sukkot festival, will take
place this year on Oct. Z1.
As has been the custom for
several years, the program will
be combined with the annual
election of officers.

the National Bicentenary of
Canadian Jewry is scheduled on
the Trans-Canada Network for
Wednesday, 9:30 to 10 p.m.
The program, presented by
the McGill Chamber Orchestra.

der Brott, will feature the fol-
lowing works of Canadian Jew-
ish composers: "Interlude in an
Artist's Life", by. John Jacob
Weinzweig; "Image", by Harry
Freedman;. and "The Astral
Vision" by _ Alexander Brett.
Weinzweig, born in 1913 in
Toronto, is president and foun,
der of the League of Canadian
Composers. Freeman, born in
1922 in Poland, received his
musical education in Winnipeg
and Toronto. Alexander Brett
was born in Montreal. He • is
well known the world over as
violinist, conductor and com-
poser. His work, "The Astral
Vision", was performed this
summer at Stratford, in a pro-
grarn of Canadian composers.
1,000 Rabbis Join in. Call
for Strengthening of ZOA
More than 1,000 rabbis of
the three branches of American
Judaism — Orthodox, Conserva-
tive and Reform—from all parts
of the country joined in a call
issued on the- occasion of Rosh
Hashanah 5720 urging "our fel-
low Jews throughout the United
States to identify themselves
with the program of the Zionist
Organization of America through
membership enrollment, as a
vital service to the progress of
Israel and the future of our
people."
. The . call, which was made
public by Abraham A. Redel-
heirn, ZOA president, s empha-
sizes the problems facing Israel
in its 11th year and _points to
the huge tasks before the young__
republic.
New officers of the Oak Park
Chapter, Order of the Eastern
Star, will be installed at a din-
ner-dance, planned for 6 p.m.,
Oct. 29, in the Sholem Aleic'hem
Institute, 19350 Greenfield.
A business meeting will be
held at 8 p.m., Oct. 15, at the
Ferndale Women's Club, when
dues for the year may be paid.
