Israel to Manufacture Spare Parts
for Jets .to Sell to Foreign Nations

JERUSALEM, (JTA) —Israel
will soon sell to other countries
spare parts for jet trainer
planes, after a plant for manu-
facturing French model Fouga
Magister planes begins oper-
ations, it is reported in a review
of the activities of the Defense
Ministry published in the Gov-
ernment Yearbook.
All parts will be manufac-
tured in Israel except for a few
which are always obtained from
specialized factories. The report
states that the past year saw
an improvement in armament
purchases by Britain while
"France continued the friendly
tradition of s u p p l y i n g new
planes and providing training
facilities".
The report notes the "great
spurt of expansion which oc-
curred during the past year in
the manufacture of armaments
and ammunition and the pur-
chase of equipment by the de-
fense forces which now enables
the local manufacture of spare
parts for planes, tanks and
vehicles."
"Increased armament pur-
chases under official agree-
ments with governments of
manufacturing countries also
supplied technical knowhow to
manufacture locally entire
weapons or spare parts," the re-
port states.
The Defense Ministry, in the
same report, also disclosed that
Israel's defense forces had ac-
quired substantial quantities of
equipment, particularly armor,
artillery and aircraft, during the
past year, in addition to the
two submarines purchased from
the British Navy.
While the survey describes
types of aircraft obtained, men-
tioning the Super-Mysteres and
the Vautours obtained from
France, it does not give any in-
formation on the types and
nature of the armor received,
except to refer to tanks and half
tracks.
The Defense Ministry survey
also described major develop-
ment in the Israel munitions in-
dustry. It said Israel's munitions

exports had provided employ-
ment for several hundred
workers and that income from
these exports covered the costs
of importing raw materials re-
quired by the industry.

Israelis Won't Act
at N.Y. Music Hall
on High Holy Days

• • ..••• • • ' • •

NEW YORK, (JTA) — A
spokesman for the Radio City
Music Hall told the JTA that
arrangements had been made
so that Israeli singers and danc-
ers brought here for a special
Israeli program at the Music
Hall will not have to perform
on Rosh Hashanah and Yom
Kippur, .
The Music Hall management
acted after having been in-
formed of concern in Israel that
the Israeli artists would be per-
forming on the Jewish High
Holy Days and that Premier
David Ben Gurion had taken a
direct interest in the matter.
Israel has offered to pay the
cost of advertisements in New
York newspapers explaining
why the Israeli troupe will not
perform. The performers, 35
singers and dancers, will open
in a 45 minute revue at the
Music Hall Thursday, Sept. 24.

Is Circumcised

JERUSALEM, (JTA)—The
Japanese scholar, Abraham
Kotsuji, completed his con-

Hospital here, with a mohel
in attendance.
His visit to Israel to un•
dergo the ceremony of con-
version was sponsored by the
World Union for the Propa-
gation of Judaism. On his re-
turn to Japan, Prof. Kotsuji,
who taught Hebrew to the
Japanese Emperor's brother,
will set up a center under
the auspices of the Union.

TEL AVIV (JTA) — Three
Negev Beduin, belonging to the
Serahin tribe connected with
the murder of an Israel Army
Officer last week, were killed
by an Israel patrol at the Sinai
border.
The Beduin were killed in
an exchange of fire after
attacking an Israel unit inves-'
tigating the officer's murder in
the western Negev. It is under-
stood that the Serahin tribe
was responsible for recent in-
cidents in the Negev near the
Nitzana area, and that most
fedayeen active in the region
were members of the tribe.
