Mumford High School
Keeping pace with the atomic
age, Mumford has instituted a
new curriculum, the Science
and Arts Program, with 115
talented student s taking
courses offered for ninth
graders.

The Mumford football sea-
son opens today at 3:30 when
the Mustangs take on the Cass
Technicians at Mumford. Last
year, Mumford finished with a
6-1 season, tying for first place
in the East Side Division. The
lone loss was to division cham-
pion, Denby.

"I Remember Mama" has
been chosen as this semester's
school play. Student director
for the presentation, which will
run Nov. 19 and 20, is Paula
Brose.

Mumfordite Mark Greenberg
is the new president of the
High S c h o o l International
Club. Each Monday night at
the Parkman Branch Library,
the group discusses current
world situations led by a guest
lecturer.

Newly-elected members of
the Radio Broadcasters are
Lewis Carroll, Clifford Franzel,
Gerald Freedman, Susan Ko-
bel, Peggy Meyer, Michael
Newman, Barbara Quint, David
Rives and Linda Y a n o w.
Among the activities of the
club is a weekly news show
throughout the school.

Cheerleaders for the 1959-
1960 season are Susan Cascade,
Beth Elgot, Eleanor Gerbs, Pa-
tricia Gross, Sandra Lachman,
and Carol Zeiger. Also on the
squad returning from last year
are Stephanie Koorhan, Bar-
bara Litt, Beth Rosenthal and
Janet Strachan.

First Movie Night Slated
by Detroit Socialites, Wed.

Detroit Socialites will pre-
sent an evening of motion pic-
tures starting at 8:30 p. m.
Wednesday at the new Work-
man's Circle auditorium, 18340
W. Seven Mile, it was an-
nounced by Ann Goldman, ex-
ecutive secretary.
A full-length musical classic
will be the feature.
The program, open to the
public, will be followed by a
social hour including refresh-
ments and popular dancing.
Arrangements are being com-
pleted, Miss Goldman said, for
the organization's first Yom-
Kippur Night dance, Oct. 12,
at Cong. Beth Abraham.

Dr. PAUL ROSENSTEIN-
RODAN, of the University of
Vienna, now Visiting Professor
at M.I.T., will join the Brandeis
faculty as prof ess or of
economics.

MR. AND MRS. L. GURMAN

Mr. and Mrs. Louis Gurman,
of 2950 Fullerton, celebrated
their 50th wedding anniversary
recently, having been married
in Europe in 1909.
The Gurmans have three
sons, Maxwell, a public relations
counselor, Gerald, a dentist,
both of Detroit, and Dr. Ben
Gurman, of Pasadena, Calif.; a
daughter, Evelyn Ostrinski, of
New York; and five grandchil-
dren.

"Ladies Day Out" will again
be offered this fall by the Jew-
ish Community Center.
The program is designed to
meet the needs of women of
all ages, with a variety of ac-
tivities in which they cannot
participate during evening
hours. A highlight of the pro-
gram is "Ladies Forum," a
series of talks dealing with
timely and controversial issues
by distinguished _ speakers, on
the first Tuesday and third
Thursday of each month.
A special feature of "Ladies
Day Out" is the playgroup pro-
gram offered for pre-schoolers
3 to 5 years old during pro-
gram hours, and supervised by
qualified nursery teachers. The
playgroup will run from 12
noon to 3 p.m. on program
days, to allow mothers of pre-
school children to attend the
program.
