Small Donors
Do • King-Sized
Job for Sinai

November Date
Set by 1Viss Jac

Evidence that it isn't how
much you give but the spirit
with which you give it that
really counts is contained in
the following story:
On Saturday, Sept. 5, four
children appeared at the in-
formation desk of the Sinai
Hosiptal of Detroit. They left
an envelope containing $4.11
which they said they had col-
lected for the Children'• Ward.
The information clerk man-•
aged to get their streets and
find out their last names were
Morrison and Shapiro. On
checking the telephone direc-
tory, the Shapiro address was
finally tracked down, and the
names of the youthful donors
divulged.
The four children had de-
cided to raise money to buy
something for the pediatrics
ward. They gave a carnival and
invited all the neighborhood
children. They also gave an ad-
ditional show for the adults in
an attempt to raise still more
money.
In their own small way they
were highly successful. Witness
the $4.11 bundle.
They tried to remain anony-
mous. The children sought no
_praise. But they deserve it. So
here they are:
Mona and Arlene Shapiro,
ages 61/2 and 8%, of 18040 In-
diana, and Lisa and Laura Mor-
rison, ages 9 and 10% of 18060
Indiana.

Slates Braille Class

A class for training Braille
transcribers will be conducted
in October by the Sisterhood of
Cong. Shaarey Zedek, announces
Mrs. Perry Goldman, Braille
chairman. Applications for the
class are being accepted by
Mrs. Goldman, at UN 3-2162.
Under the auspices of the
Jewish Braille Institute, the
transcribing of books will help
augment the Institute's circu-
lating library.
Often the need for a book is
so urgent, Mrs. Goldman said,
that it is sent on chapter by
chapter to a blind student, so
that he can keep up with his
class.
Over 25,000 of the 400,000
blind in the United States are
Jewish, Mrs. Goldman reported.
"Braille books not only light
the darkness of their lives, but
enable them to continue their
education and businesses, use
a Braille cookbook to run a
home and enable a boy to be-
come Bar Mitzvah . . ."
