Bnai David Dedicates Maneli Lobby Sept. 23 The dedication of the Maneli Lobby in memory of Sol Maneli and a number of other building plaques will be dedicated at Congregation Bnai David next Wednesday, 8 p.m. The other memorial dedica- tion include the lobby furnish- ings in memory of Eli, Esther, At an impressive ceremony, Rotenberg Hall, in memory of Mr. and Mrs. Abraham Rothenberg, was dedicated at Congregation Bnai David. Bnai Moshe, Suburban Synagogues Join Holy Day Israel Bond Appeal Congregation Bnai Moshe will undertake a special High Holy Day appeal for State of Israel Bonds to help the economic development- of Israel, wit was announced by Phillip Stollman, chairman of the Religious Coun- cil of the Detroit Committee for Israel Bonds. This intensified effort for Israel will be part of the first High Holy Day services to be held in Bnai Moshe's new syna- gogue building. `Fashions' to Feature YI Sisterhood Meeting The Sisterhood of Young Is- rael Center of Oak-Woods will welcome its members to the opening meeting of the season with a new version of one of its past successes — "Fashions Through the Years," with new models, different costumes and a gala - narrative. All members and prospective members are urged to attend at the Young Israel Center of Oak- Woods, Coolidge and Allen Rds. at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. Beth Shalom Begins Friday Night Services The first of this season's Fri- day night services will be held Friday at Beth Shalom Syna- gogue, 14601 W. Lincoln Rd., Oak Park, Mich. Rabbi Mordecai Halpern will conduct with Cantor Ruben Erl- baum chanting the liturgy. Rab- bi Halpern's sermon will be, "A Time To Be Detached—A Time To Be Involved." The following morning serv- ices will start at 9 a.m. The Bar Mitzvah of Robert Clinton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Clin- ton will be held at that time. To Chant Holiday Service at Greenfield Young Israel Cantors Ben Weinstock and Shimon Berris have been in- vited to chant the High Holiday services at the new Young Israel of Greenfield, 15150 W. Ten Mile. Tickets for a limited number of seats are still available from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday; and from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Sunday. Harry Gunsberg, president of Bnai Moshe, and Rabbi Moses Lehrman, its spiritual leader, have called on members of their congregation to partici- pate in this High. Holy Day synagogue drive for Israel Bonds, Stollman reported. Twenty-five synagogues, in- cluding three which were established in the past year in the suburban areas of De- troit, are participating in the 1959 High Holy Day Appeal for State of Israel Bonds, it was reported by Stollman. Stollman issued his report at a special leadership meeting held Sept. 8 at Cong. Beth Beth Aaron. Assisting in organizing the effort at the meeting were Rab- bi Milton Arm, Harry E. Citrin, Mrs. B. Z. Freeman, Jerome Friedman, Rabbi B. H. Gorre lick, William Hordes, Joseph Kadans, Joseph Katchke, Jack Shenkman, David Silver, Rabbi Joshua Sperka, Joe Sulkes, Zvi Tomkiewicz and Sam Yuster. The three new congrega- tions to which Stollman re- ferred in his report are Liv- onia Jewish Congregation, Mishkan Israel and Shaarey Shomayim. Stollman announced that a traditional Torah pointer made by Yemenite silversmiths in Israel, will be awarded to syna- gogues that achieve a high level of participation in this year's High Holy Day appeal - for Israel Bonds. Judge Nathan J. Kaufman and Norman Allan are co-chair- men of the High Holy Day ReligiouS Council for Israel Bonds. ' Sosin Entertains Men's Club Max Sosin, popular Jewish humorist, will entertain mem- bers of the Beth Shalom Men's Club and their friends at a pro- gram planned for Wednesday evening, in the synagogue, 14601 W. SOC Hadassah to Hear Freedman Newspaper Correspondent and political analyst Max Freedman will be the speaker of the day at the South Oakland County Chapter of Hadassah meeting at 12:30 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 22 at Bnai David Synagogue, 24350 Southfield. Theme of this opening meet- ing will be "Be a Lifesaver— Work for Hadassah." Freedman is the Washington correspondent for the Manches- ter Guardian, a paper known as a champion of liberal causes. He is heard regularly on "Meet the Press" and "Face the Na- tion." Born and educated in Winni- peg, Freedman still writes for his old paper. the Winnipeg Free Press and • is heard every two weeks on Sunday over the Trans-Canada radio from Wash- ington as a political analyst. He has been asked by Justice Frankfurter to do his biography.
