WASHINGTON, (JTA) —
Praising the people of Israel
for having "created a dynamic-
society," President Eisenhower
pledged the United States Gov-
ernment "to strengthen the al-
ready close ties of friendship
and mutual understanding" be-
tween the U.S. and Israel.
Eisenhower's p l e d g e was
voiced to Abraham Harman,
Israel's new Ambassador here,
when he presented his formal
letters of credence to the Pres-
ident in a ceremony at the
White House.
Harthan expressed to Eisen-
hower "the gratitude of the
government and people of Israel_
for the help and support we
have received" from the U.S.
government. He added that "this
is a solemn moment for me,
for I am deeply conscious of
the firm ties of friendship be-
tween the United States of
America and Israel."
Referring to his previous tour
of duty in this country, when
he was Israel Consul-General in
New York, Harman told Presi-
dent Eisenhower "I know I can
look forword to understanding.

This is the architect's drawing of the proposed $250,000
Detroit Dormitory at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem,
which will be the gift of Detroit Jewry to the university. The
campaign for funds for the building will be climaxed with
a dinner in the Terrace Room of Hotel Statler, next Thursday
evening. Eleanor Roosevelt will be the principal speaker. The
sponsoring committee for the dinner is headed by Judge Theo-
dore Levin, with Alan E. Schwartz and Leonard N. Simons as
co-chairmen.

Canada Elects Delegates to CJC Plenary Session

MONTREAL, (JTA)—Jewish
communities in all the ten
Canadian provinces have com-
pleted election of delegates to
the 12th plenary session of the
Canadian Jewish Congress
which will be held here Oct. 29-
Nov. 1.

Prime Minister John G. Dief-
enbaker will address the dele-
gates at the dinner in honor
of the Bicentenary of Canadian
Jewry. The conference will also
commemorate the 40th anni-
versary of the founding of
Congress in 1919, and the 25th
year of its recognition in 1934.
