bankers touring Israel under
the auspices of the Jewish

activities in Society

Mr. and Mrs. Henry Pariser,
of Wildemere Ave., announce
the engagement of their daugh-
ter, Barbara Anne, to Bertram
Philip Adler, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Harry. Adler, of Peekskill,
N. Y.
Miss Pariser is a graduate
of Kingswood School and is
presently a senior at the Uni-
versity of Michigan. Mr. Adler,
who served with the Army
Signal Corps in Korea and
Japan, attends Northeastern
University in Boston. A January
wedding is planned.

Three Plays Listed
by Center Theater

John Patrick's "The Curious
Savage" and S. N. Behrman's
"The Cold Wind and the Warm"
will be highlights of the first
season of Center Theater, adult
play-producing group of the SS United States for Europe where they will vacation for two
Jewish Center, according to weeks before going on to Israel for the High Holidays.

vival of "A Tale of Chelm"

rome Bayer, at the Aaron De-
Roy Theatre of the Center's
main building on Meyers.

"The Curious Savage" will be
the opening attraction, Dec. 10,
12 and 13.
Behrman's "The Cold Wind
and the Warm" is scheduled for
performances Feb. 25, 27 and
28.
By popular demand, Center
Theatre will give two repeat

performances of "A Tale of
Chelm," a part of the eighth
annual Jewish Book Fair, Nov.
21 and 22.

Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Ellias have returned from their honey-
moon in Nassau.
Luis Freedman arrived in Haifa aboard the liner Olympia
for an extended stay in Israel.
Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Silverman have left for England and
Scotland and will visit with Mrs. Silverman's brother, Joseph
Holtzman, who is recovering from injuries he sustained in an
automobile accident in Scotland.
Mr. and Mrs. Louis R. Lumberg, of Wildwood Avenue, Oak
Park, celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary at a dinner at
the Roostertail given by their children, Eugene Lumberg and
Mr. and Mrs. Sam Markel of Oak Park.
Michael Alterman, of Rensselaer, Oak Park; Peter Sidlow,
of Argyle Crescent; Henry Spiro, of Parkside Ave.; and Neal
Kalish, of Westland Ave., have recently returned from an
extended stay in Cape Cod and a tour of the New England states.
Mrs. Lee Franklin Weinstock, of Snowden Ave., travelled
to South Haven over the weekend to attend a Chicago Bnai Brith
seminar on Judaism. With her was Mrs. Jeanne Winsen, of the
Belcrest Hotel.
Miss Anne Adler and Mrs. Leonard Cohen (Eva Adler),
daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Adler, of 3038 Fullerton, simul-
taneously received college degrees. Miss Adler obtained a master
of social science from Smith College of Social Work and Mrs.
Cohen received her bachelor's degree from Wayne State Univer-
sity.

One of the most exciting the-
atrical seasons in the 50-year
history of the Shubert and Riv-
iera Theaters was announced
by Detroit owner David T. Ned-
erlander.
Leading off the season at the
R i v i e r a will be entertainer
Pearl Bailey, accompanied by a
cast of 50, Sept. 28-Oct. 4. Al-
fred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne,
noted acting team, will star in
Frederich Duerenmatt's "The
Visit," Oct. 12-24 at the Shubert
Theater.
"Goodbye Charlie," starring
Lauren Bacall and Sydney Chap-
lin will be presented at the
Shubert Oct. 26-Nov. 7,while
Ginger Rogers and Agnes
Moorehead will be featured in
the musical, "The Pink 'Jungle,"
Nov. 12-28 at the Shubert.
Pulitzer Prize - winning play
"J. B." by Archibald MacLeish,
a broadway production which

received the American Theater
Wing's "Tony" award as the
best play of the season, will be
presented at the Shubert Nov.
30-Dec. 12, starring Basil Rath-
bone.
Other -performances will in-
clude "The Pleasure of His
Company" with Cyril Ritchard
and Cornelia Otis Skinner in
January; Bette Davis and Gary
Merrill reading Carl Sandburg,
in November; Katherine Cor-
nell and Brian Aherne in "Dear
Liar," in April; "The Music
Man" with Forrest Tucker in
January; and "West Side Story"
following "The Music Man."
As part of the "Sunday After-
noon at the Shubert" series,
such artists as Carlos Montoya,
flamenco guitarist, and Pete
Seeger, folk singer, will be pre-
sented. They will perform on
Oct. 11 and Nov. 22, respect-
ively.

Miss Irene Judith Lipkin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Abraham
Lipkin, graduated Wednesday evening from the Harper Hospital
School of Nursing. Graduation exercises were held in the Rackham
Building, with a reception following at the Nurses' Residence.
Miss Lipkin is a graduate of Central High School.
Mrs. Lilyan Lichtenstein, 12170 Broadstreet, has as guests her
father, Samuel Levitt, of Miami Beach, and her brother, Dr.
Leroy P. Levitt, of Chicago, who are here to attend the Bar
Mitzvah of her son, Arthur, on Saturday.
The 25th anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Sameroff, of
16546 Wisconsin, was celebrated. recently at a buffet dinner
given by Mrs. Sameroff's sisters and brother-in-law, Mrs. Ethel
Wandruff and Mr. and Mrs. Martin Eichelbaum, at the Eichel-
baum home, 18465 Cherrylawn. Out-of-town guests included
Mrs. Sameroff's mother, Mrs. Ben Lerman, of North Hollywood,
Calif.; their niece, Mrs. P. Slovensky, and her two children, of
Chicago; a cousin, Mrs. Hanna Lang, -of Los Angeles, and cousins,
Mr. and Mrs. J. Rabin, of Knoxville, Tenn. The Sameroffs have
two sons, Arnold and Philip.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Malamud, of 22511 Bellwood, Birmingham,
are leaving for Israel Sept. 20 via El Al airlines. They plan to
remain there until after Knesset elections.
Mr. and Mrs. Manuel Weisman arrived in Israel this week
where they will spend the High Holidays before continuing to
Europe.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Wetsman left for an extended stay in
Europe and Israel.
Mr. and Mrs. Ben Shiffman were passengers aboard the
Queen Elizabeth which left this week for England.••They will
visit England, France, Italy and Israel.
Mrs. Selma Freedman • and Mrs. Ann Jacobs are presently
touring through Europe and Israel.
Dr. and Mrs. William Usher, of Grosse Pointe, and their
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Usher, are presently en route to
Amsterdam. They will continue to Vienna, Istanbul, Israel,
Athens, Paris and London before returning home.
Herman J. Agins arrived in London for a brief stay in the-
United Kingdom, after spending two weeks in the Soviet Union.
Jules Doneson, of the Jules Doneson Travel Agency, is
attending the convention of the Mid-America Chapter of the
American Society of Travel Agents in Cleveland.
