away Sept. 5, 1919, -10 days in

and Mrs. Harry Weingarden,
and grandchildren.

Edgar B. Stern Dies

PRICE, Utah, (JTA)—Edgar
Bloom Stern, a New Orleans
civic leader and business ex-
ecutive, died here Aug. 25 at a
local hospital after he' had be-
come ill aboard a train near
here. He was 73 years old.
Active in civic and Jewish
affairs, Stern was a member
of the executive of the Amer-
ican Jewish Committee and he
was on the advisory board of
the Joint Distribution Com-
mittee. He leaves a wife, the
former Edith Rosenwald, a
daughter of the late Julius
Rosenwald; two sons and a
daughter.

Yohanan Beham, director of
the • Israel Government Tourist
Corporation in Jerusalem, has
taken a two-year leave of ab-
sence from his post in order to
assume the directorship of the
Israel Government Tourist Of-
fice in New York.

troiter who has been making
her home in. Miami Beach, Fla.,
with her hus-
band, Isidor,
for the past 15
years, died in
Detroit on
Aug. 29.

Sunday. Sur-
viving her be-
sides her hus- Mrs. Brasch
band are two sons, Jerome and
Robert; two daughters, Mrs.
Lillian Emory and Mrs. Edmund
Papineau, a brother, Morris
Feintuch, and eight grandchil-
dren.
She was the mother of the
late Abe Brasch, prominent De-
troit advertising executive.
Mr. and Mrs. Isidor Brasch
were married in Europe in 1902.
They would have celebrated
their 57th wedding anniversary
in November.

Asher Levitsky, Leading
Israeli Lawyer, Dead at 56

JERUSALEM, (JTA)—Asher
Levitsky, an outstanding mem-
ber of the Israeli bar and the
country's leading criminal
lawyer, died suddenly in Tel
Aviv at the age of 56.
President Itzhak Ben Zvi was
represented at the funeral serv-
ices held in the presence of the
Chief Justice and members of
the Supreme Court, members
of the Cabinet, heads of the
Israeli bar associations and the
Freemasons. Levitsky was dep-
uty grand master of the local
lodge.
Levitsky received interna-
tional attention - during the
period of the British Mandate
when he defensed Revisionist
youths on terrorism charges.
He went to Cairo in 1943 to
undertake, the defense of two
young Jewish terrorists accused
of the assassination there of
Lord Moyne, the British Secre-
tary of State. During the 1948
War of Liberation, Levitsky
served in the Israeli Army as
liaison officer with the United
Nations Truce Supervision Or-
ganization. Later, he served as
an advisor to the Israeli Min-
istry of Justice.
