Increased Parental
Control Favored by
Bnai Brith Youth
STARLIGHT, Pa. (JTA)—An
overwhelming majority of Jew-
ish teenagers in the United
States wants more parental con-
trol, is willing to accept definite
limits on behavior. These facts
emerged here today from a
survey conducted among 150
regional officers of the Bnai
Brith Youth Organization, at-
tending a Leadership Training
Conference this weekend.
Almost 97 percent of the
teenagers voted in favor of a
curfew to be set by the com-
munity for boys and girls be-
low the age of 18. Among those,
questioned, 85 percent favored
having parents "around" when
teenagers hold house parties.
Almost unanimously, the Jew-
ish teenagers agreed that dis-
plays of affection in public are
in bad taste, beyond boys and
girls holding hands. The youths
were of the view that parents
and teenagers should decide to-
gether the size of a youth's
allowance, and 80 p e r cent
agreed that parents have a right
to inquire as to how the al-
lowances are spent

JERUSALEM, (JTA) — Rep-
resentatives of the United
States _National Science Foun-
dation signed a $300,000 con-
tract with the Israel National
Research Fund under which
about 70 Israeli academicians
will be employed for one year
in translating Russian scientific
literature into English.
Specialists for the work will
be drawn from the Hebrew Uni-
versity, the Weizmann Institute
and the Israel Institute of Tech-
nology at Haifa.
Experience gained by the
Jews in running illegal immi-
grant ships and refugee camps
in the days before the establish-
ment of Israel may be utilized
by American scientists study-
ing problems of rapid evacua-
tion- of population areas and of
maintaining survival camps in
the event of an atomic attack,
it was reported here.
The Jerusalem Post said that
the American scientists here on
an official mission had re-
quested the Haifa Institute of
Technology to collect data
about speedy embarkation and
disembarkation techniques, the
number of passengers that can
be put aboard ships, the mini-
mum daily food and water re-
quirements and other relevant
data.
Based on the experience of
the illegal ships that carried
refugees to Palestine, the. insti-
tute was also asked to collect
data on the size of crews, the
number of technical personnel
and medical facilities required.
Similar information was also
requested about the operation
of the refugee camps.
The newspaper said the re-
quest followed the reading by
one of the visiting American
scientists of a book dealing with
the illegal Zionist immigration.
