Emma Schaver's Father, Jacob Lazaroff, Dies Jacob Lazaroff, father of in- ternationally-known Detroit so- prano, Emma Schaver, died last week in Los Angeles, Calif., where he and his wife, Anna, had made their home for the past nine years. Mrs. Schaver, her husband, Morris, and son, Isaac, who were attending the World Jew- ish Congress sessions in Stock- holm, Sweden, flew to Los An- geles to attend the funeral. Born at Kaminoskia, in the Russian Ukraine, Mr. Lazaroff came to Detroit from Roches- ter, N.Y., and lived here for 32 years. He was the rare combination of the pious Jew and the Labor Zionist, and labored equally on behalf of both ideologies dur- ing his years here. Mr. Lazaroff was for several years the sexton of Cong. Beth Itzchock, at 3836 Fischer, the only synagogue still remaining on Detroit's East Side. He also was a Hebrew teacher at the shul. Later, he became affiliated with Cong. A h a v a s Achim, when it was located on Del- mar St. Besides his wife and his daughter, Mrs. Schaver, Mr. Lazaroff leaves another daugh- ter, Mrs. Edith Tannenbaum, of Los Angeles; four sons, Al- len and Isadore, both of Los Angeles, Morris, of St. Louis, and Aaron, of San Diego; and 13 grandchildren. Sinai 'Hospital Nurse Mrs. Diane Simon Dies Mrs. Diane Simon, widow of Dr. Emil Robert Simon, died on Aug. 8, in Sinai Hospital, where she taught in the Shapero School of Nursing. Mrs. Simon, 42, had resided at 18308 Santa Rosa. A registered nurse, who grad- uated in 1938 from the Deacon- ess School of Nursing, Mrs. Simon also served as a substi- tute teacher in the Detroit Public Schools. Born in Russia, she came to Detroit with her parents 38 years ago. She was a member of the Women's Auxiliary to the Maimonides Medical Society and the Pioneer Women. Mrs. Simon leaves two sons, Steve and Burl; a daughter, Bonnie; her father, Nathan Freeman, of North Hollywood, Calif.; and a brother, Dr. Wil- liam Freeman, of Van Nuys, Calif. Jabotinsky's Yahrzeit Marked by Pilgrimage NEW YORK, (JTA) — Amer- ican Jewish war veterans and members of the Jewish Legion in World War I were among hundreds of New Yorkers who participated in a pilgrimage to the grave of Vladimir Jabo- tinsky, late founder and leader of the world Zionist Revision- ist movement, on the occasion of the 19th anniversary of his death. Mr. Jabotinsky is buried at the New Montefiore Cem- etery, Long Island. The Zionist Revisionist lead- er, who was also the founder of Irgun Zvai Leumi, the Re- visionist underground fighters against the British mandatory regime in Palestine, died in 1940 at the Brit Trumpeldor Camp, near New York. Participating in the pilgrim- age to his grave were delega- tions from Israel and Latin America. An El Al plane brought earth from Israel to cover Jabotinsky's grave.
