5 Mumford 'Cherubs'
Honored at Institute
of Northwestern U.

Planned for Dec. 20

Awards for outstanding work
in the fields of journalism, mu-
sic and general education were
presented to Mumford dele-
gates to the National High
School Institute at Northwest-
ern University recently.
Five girls, Susan Gail Cohn,
Julie Nichamin, Nancy Adel-
son, Susan Taitelbaum and
Ann Mischakoff, were invited
to the five-week seminar on
the strength of their scholastic
ability and service to their
school. Five hundred students
from throughout the country
and many parts of the world
pooled their varied experiences
in the five divisions of the pro-
gram: journalism, music, edu-
cation, speech and technology.
A first place trophy for news
editing was awarded to Miss-
Cohn for new editing. She re-
ceived two books as second
place award in creative writ-
ing and third place in versa-
tility, besides an honorable
mention for news reporting.
Miss Adelson was given a
gold key for demonstrating ex-
cellence in classes -and extra-
curricular activities, .while Miss
Nichamin received honorable
mention awards for feature
writ in g and contemporary
thought.
A set of leather bookends
was presented to Miss Mischa-
koff, daughter of symphony vi--
olinist Mischa Mischakoff, as a
second place award for piano.
All the girls will enter their
senior year in the fall.
The cultural resources of Chi-
cago, besides - the facilities of
the university, were available
to the 500 "cherubs"—so nick-
named at the Institute—allow-
ing them to mix recreational
and social affairs with intel-
lectual stimulation.
