Temple Service

Arthur Hass will occupy the
pulpit of Temple Israel as guest
preacher at sabbath eve serv-
ices, scheduled for 8:30 p.m., to-
day.
The service will be the second
of a series of three sabbath
services conducted by lay lead-
ers of the tem-
ple. Haas, an
attorney, will
speak on the
Sedrah of the
week. He is a
past officer
and presently
a board mem-
ber of Temple
Israel.

ah will be Robert Rycus, a mem-
ber of the High School Youth
Group, while Larry Colten, a
Wayne State University student,
will recite the blessings.
The Haftorah will be read by
Nancy Cohen, a student at Bran-
deis University, and the bless-

given by Mrs. Frank Simons.
Rabbi M. Robert Syme, associ-
ate rabbi of Temple Israel, will
officiate at the service.

Former U.S. Ambassador to
Israel James G. McDonald will
be guest speaker at a reception
for friends of Bar-Ilan Univers-
ity, Aug. 16, at the summer
home of Frieda, Max and Phil-
lip Stollman, 2675 Lake An-
gelus, Pontiac.
Dr. Jacob Goldman of the
Bar-Ilan Academicians Commit-
tee will extend greetings. He is
a physicist with the research
laboratory of the Ford Motor
Company.
Acquainted with the aims and
problems of the Jewish State
and of the Bar-Ilan University,
McDonald is considered an out-
standing authority on interna-
tional affairs.
A founder of the Foreign
Policy Association, McDonald
served as chairman of the board
from its inception in 1919 until
1933, when he was appointed
League of Nations High Com-
missioner for German Refugees.
As League Commissioner, Mc-
Donald was one of the first to
recognize a threat to world

peace by Nazi persecution of the
Jews.
