Fifteen teach- ers registered for the intensive course. The Council also published a 14 page pamphlet by Allen A. Set Lay Services at Temple Israel 20 Synagogues Respond to Call for High Holy Day Bond Appeals A total of 20 synagogues in the Metropolitan Detroit area have to date notified the State of Israel Bond office of their intentions to again support High Holy Day appeals for Israel Bonds. Heading the list is Adas Sha- lom Synagogue, which has tra- ditionally been the leader in Bond appeals in past years. The congregation voted unanimous- ly last week to authorize the Bond appeal. Other synagogues are Congre- gations Ahavas Achim, Beth Aaron, Beth Abraham, Beth Jo- seph, Beth Moses, Beth Shmuel, Beth Tikvah, Beth Yehudah, Bnai Israel, Bnai Jacob, Bnai Zion, Evergreen Jewish Cong., Ezras Achim, Gemiluth Chasso- dim, Mishkan Israel, Mogen Abraham, S h o m r e y Emunah, Young Israel of Northwest De- troit and Chesed shel Emes. At the same time, the local Bond office released a message sent from Israel by Rabbi Max J. Wohlgelernter, secretary gen- eral to the Israel Chief Rabbi- nate. In his appeal for support of Israel, Rabbi Wohlgelernter, who formerly served as execu- tive vice-president of the Yeshi- vath Beth Yehudah in Detroit, states: "Jewish communities through- out the world, marking High Holy Days at the beginning of the Hebrew calendar year 5720, will demonstrate the eternal unity of God, Torah and Israel. The unbroken link between Eretz Israel and the Diaspora will again be accentuated when millions Of our brethren reach a high point of religious exalta- tion at Neila on the Day of Atonement. "Divine Providence brought the state of Israel into being 11 years ago after generations of Jews had continued to voice yq hope in their prayers and given practical expression to it by supporting the old and the mod- ern Yishuv. The Ingathering of the exiles' from many lands and their maturing into citizenship; the growth of agriculture, in- dustry and democratic govern- ment; the creation and mainte- nance of religious and educa- tional institutions — these and other achievements since inde- pendence was regained have been made possible by the mate- rial aid world Jewry has con- tributed for the second Return to Zion. "Ahead of us lie the further development and defense of the country and the final absorption of those who have come over the years. We shall need the unflagging cooperation of every loyal son and daughter of the Jewish people to complete these initial steps in the historic proc- ess of redemption. "In keeping with the very tradition of these solemn occa- sions, synagogue worshippers should rededicate themselves to this sacred task on Rosh Hash- anah, Yom Kippur and Sukkot, and avail themselves of the op- portunity to acquire a real share in the upbuilding of the Holy Land by purchasing State of Israel Bonds.
