Cranbrook Ends Music
Series with 3 Works

Two duet sonatas and a piano
trio will be featured selections
at the fifth and last in a series
of Cranbrook Music Guild con-
certs at 4:30 p.m. Sunday in
Cranbrook House, Lone Pine
Road, Bloomfield Hills.
Mischa Kottler, pianist, Gor-
don Staples, violinist, and Paul
Olefsky, cellist, will be, guest
artists, performing popular
pieces of Beethoven, Brahms
and Mendelssohn.
The program will include
"Sonata for Violin and Piano,
Opus 47 areutzer' " by Beetho-
ven; "Sonata for Cello and Pi-
ano in F Major, Opus 99" by
Brahms and "Trio No. 1 in D

Wolverine Quarter Midget
Racing Club, a non-profit organ-
ization for boys and girls 4 to
15, will start the second half
of its championship season this
Sunday, at its "Miracle Mile"
track, on Telegraph and Square
Lake Rcls., Bloomfield Town-
ship.
Time trials begin at 1:30 p.m.,
after which there will be 15
events, beginning at 3 p.m.
The track is one-tenth of a
mile in diameter, is banked and
has a retaining wall. The young
drivers attain speeds up to 25
miles per hour.
The public i.=.• invited to watch
the racers at no charge. Bleach-
ers can accommodate a crowd-
of 5.000. For information, call

A surprise party honoring Mrs. Sarah Kanter, of 19350
Ardmore. on the occasion of her 60th birthday was tendered
recently by her husband, Mr. Herman Kanter, and Mr. and Mrs.
Sam Shayne. The event took place in the Sholem Aleichem
Institute, in which she is a leading worker both for the Institute
and the Women's Division. She also has been president of
Kinneret Chapter of Pioneer Women. Mrs. Kanter was given
certificates for many contributions in her honor to the Child
Rescue Fund and for trees planted by the Jewish National Fund.
Yiddish and Hebrew songs were sung by Mr. Sidney Rasnick
and Mrs. Lillian Zellman.
Mr. and Mrs. Aaron A. Silberblatt, of Miami Beach, Fla.,
are guests here at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Morgan,
of Northlawn Ave.
Miss Jane Center, of Kentucky Ave., is now touring Europe,
where she is planning to visit Germany, Italy, Switzerland and
France. Prior to her departure, she was entertained at a bon
voyage. party for 50 people given by Mr. and Mrs. Seymour
Center, of Windsor, Ont.
Mr. and Mrs. Sam Fox and family, of Tucson, Ariz., are
currently visiting with family and friends in Detroit, Windsor
and Lansing. They will return home in mid-August.
Mr. and Mrs. Isadore Jacob, of 4302 Tyler, will celebrate
their golden wedding anniversary this Saturday evening with a
small dinner party. The couple has four daughters and seven
grandchildren.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Priesont, of N. Martindale Ave., were
honored last Sunday evening on the occasion of their golden
wedding anniversary with a dinner party at Sammy's Avalon
Room, in Oak Park. Attending the affair, given by their children.
Mr. and Mrs. Sol Priesot, Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Zager and Mr.
and Mrs. Herman Schulberg, were out-of-town guests from Ohio,
Illinois and California.
Mrs. Harry Newman and son, Mark, of Pala Alto, Calif., are
currently in Detroit visiting with her brother, Mr. Harry Reznick
and family, and her mother, Mrs. Fanny Reznick, of Hartwell
Ave. While here, Mrs. Newman and Mark will attend the wed-
ding of their nephew and cousin, Mr. Howard Alan Reznick to
Miss Susan Cohen, on Aug. 23.
Messrs. Mickey Alterman, Bob Greenberg and Gary Eisen-
berg returned to Detroit on Tuesday after spending an extended I
weekend in Chicago.

Tamarack Dedication to Reveal
Eight New Camping Facilities

Special ceremonies of dedica-
cation for eight new facilities
at Camp Tamarack will be open
to the entire community at 2
p.m., Aug. 12, at the camp, it is
announced by Dr. Raymond -A.
Sokolov, dedication committee
chairman.
Principal speaker will be Dr.
Irving Posner, president of the
Fresh Air Society.
Camp Tamarack, a 711-acre
site at Ortonville, is operated by
the Jewish Welfare Federation
to provide year-round camping
facilities. Nathan Silverman is
Tamarack Hills Authority chair-
man.
The Sidney and Phyllis Allen
Amphitheater, the S h e r u t h
League Village and Athletic
Field, the Mina and Theodore
Bargman Trailer, the Abraham
Birnberg Cabin, a cabin in mem-
ory of Sadie K. Brown and
Augusta G. Brown, the Morton
A. Gordon and Sarah M. Gordon
Cabin, the Syd Levinson Cabin,
and a cabin in memory of Jacob
M. Pincus will be dedicated.
The Allen Amphitheater was
the unique tribute to the late
Sidney Allen on the occasion of
his 60th birthday. Instead of
making the traditional party, his
friends quietly assembled a
fund toward erection of an out-
door auditorium.
Dedication of the Sheruth
League Village, consisting of
six cabins and a recreation and
dining center, completes a dec-
ade of planning and working by
the League.
In 1949, Sheruth entered into
an agreement with Federation
and Fresh Air Society to estab-
lish a building trust fund. The
core of a camp village, a recrea-
tion and dining center to serve
campers housed in tents until
cabins could be built, was dedi-
cated in 1954. Ground-breaking
for the six cabins of Sheruth
Village was in the fall of 1957.
During the summer of 1945,
Sheruth sent five children to
camp for 18 weeks, provided
with new camp clothes. Sheruth
now sends more than 50 chil-
dren for more than 200 weeks
of camping at Fresh Air Camp.
