is Detroiter Ronald A. Seltzer,
son of Prof. and Mrs. Lawrence
H. Seltzer, of 19475 Stratford.
Seltzer arrived in London last
month and is working under Dr.
Paul Wood, noted British heart
specialist, on a f e l l o w s h i p
awarded him by the Michigan
Heart Association.
Recipient of an award for be-
ing. the most outstanding third-
year medical student in the
Wayne State University college
of medicine, Seltzer will return
to Detroit in September to com-
plete his final year at WSU.
The young Detroiter will as-
sume the presidency of the
Aescu•lapians, national honorary
service fraternity on the medi-
cal school campus, a post to
which he was elected at the end
of the last semester.

Chajes to Open Full Symphony
Season at New Center Theater
Autumn will mark the be-
ginning of the first full season
for the Center Symphony Or-
chestra of the Jewish Commu-
nity Center in the new 500-seat
Aaron DeRoy Theater, Meyers
Road branch. •
In its 20th year under the di-
rection of Julius Chajes, Center
music director, the symphony
will feature outstanding concert
artists.
Chajes, conductor, composer
and concert pianist, plans a spe-
cial concert for Jewish Book
Month, in March, highlighted
by performances from three
soloists: Paul Olefsky, cellist,

Harvey Seigel, violinist, and
Lare Wardrop, English horn.
But the orchestra, although
including several professional
musicians, is composed mainly
of skilled amateurs.
They will present six Tuesday
evening concerts in the regular
program, plus two special Sun-
day afternoon concerts: a fam-
ily presentation Nov. 2 and a
young people's concert Nov. 29.
Other noted local artists to
participate in the series will be
violinist Zvi Zeitlin, cellist
Joseph Schuster, pianist Mischa
Kottler, Linda Newman, so-
prano, and Charles Sirard, bas-
soonist.
Chairman of the Center music
committee is Abraham Cooper,
while Mrs. Saul H. Rose serves
as chairman of the Friends of
the Center Symphony, the or-
chestra's patron organization.
Dr. Leon Rottenberg is presi-
dent of the Center Symphony
players.
