Irving Wohlman Dies

Irving Wohlman, founder and
president for 30 years of Wohl-
man and Sons, Inc., a hide pro-
cessing firm, died July 13, in
Los Angeles, Calif., while on a
visit to his daughter, Mrs. Al-
len Shiff.
Mr. Wohlman, who resided at
18960 Snowden, was born in
Russia, and came here in his
youth. He was a member of
Beth-Aaron Synagogue and the
Bnai Brith.
Besides his daughter, he
leaves - his wife, Toby; three
sons, Robert, Morton and Sey-
mour; two brothers and 10
grandchildren.

lifelong Zionist and a prominent
backer of traditional Jewish
movements, died July 9, at Jen-

Jewish Branch Schools

PHILADELPHIA (JTA)-The
Federation of Jewish Agencies
of Greater Philadelphia ap-
proved plans for establishment
of Jewish branch schools in
neighborhoods of concentrated
Jewish population where Jewish
schools are needed.
The Federation. within the
limit of available funds. will
back the U n i t e d Hebrew
Schools and Yeshivot in estab-
lishing these branches. it was
stated.
It was pointed out that the
Federation "regards the after-
noon Hebrew school program
of the United Hebrew Schools
and Yeshivot as a major edu-
cational arm towards the preser-
vation of Jewish traditional
values and culture."

TEL AVIV (JTA)-A monu-
ment to the memory of Shlomo
Ben Yossef, the first Jew sent
to the gallows by British auth-
orities in 1938, was unveiled
on a mountain in Galilee.
Attending the ceremony were
Herat members of the Knesset.
Israel's Parliament, headed by
Menachem Beigin. many Betar
youths and former members of
the underground Irgun of the
pre-state period.

Ill., Kabaker came here with his
family in 1908. He was grad-
uated from Detroit College of
Law with cum laude honors in
1919 and was admitted to the
Michigan Bar in 1920.
Kabaker followed in the foot-
steps of his revered parents, the
late Jacob and Ida Kabaker,
for his piety in adhering to all
traditional Jewish practices. He
was a Sabbath observer, a reg-
ular attendant at Shaarey Zedek
services and an ardent student
of the Bible.
He was a generous contribu-
tor to all important Jewish
causes and was a strong sup-
porter of the Allied Jewish Cam-
paign, Jewish National Fund.

Surviving him are two bro-
thers, Samuel. of Detroit, and
Nathan. of Los Angeles. and
three sisters. Jeanette and Mrs.
Joseph (Sally) Handleman. of
Detroit. and Mrs. Morris (Es-
: ther) Streizer. of Brooklyn. N.Y.
Funeral services were held
9:30 a.m. Sunday, at Ira Kauf-
man Chapel. Burial was in
Clover Hill Park Cemetery.
