Chachmey Lublin
Ready to Build
Southfield School
Plans for the construction of
a permanent building for the
Yeshivath Chachmey Lublin in
Southfield were announced this
week by Rabbi Moses Rothen-
berg. clean of the school.
The institution, located for
many years at Linwood and
Elmhurst, moved to Southfield
last September, and has been
meeting in temporary quarters
at 25870 Fairfax, a block west
of Greenfield, at 101/2 Mile.
Rabbi Rothenberg reported
that since opening in -the subur-
ban community, the scY ool has
attracted many new students
from Oak Park, Southfield and
other outlying communities.
The teachers, all certified to
instruct in Hebrew and English
by the Board of Education, have
won high praise from visiting
parents and local rabbis.
The institution stresses He-
brew and religious studies,
along with regular courses
taught in the public schools.
In addition to the school. the
Yeshivah has established a
synagogue for observant Jews
who will not ride to synagogue
on the sabbath. Services are
held every Friday evening and
Saturday, at the school.
For information on the school
program, call the Yeshivah of-
fice, EL. 7-0125, or Dr. Leon
Berg, English principal, TE.
4-2324. Information on the syna-
gogue services can be obtained
from Rabbi - Rothenberg, LI.

Neturei Karta
Stages Display
to Greet Rabbi
HAIFA (JTA)—A chartered
seven-coach train left for Jeru-
salem carrying Rabbi Joel Tei-
telbaum, the Satmarer Rebbe,
and hundreds of his followers.
A gigantic welcome awaits the
Hassidic rabbi from the Neturei
Karta, the ultra-orthodox group
which considers the rebbe as
their leader.
Rabbi Teitelbaum arrived
here aboard a Turkish vessel,
and was greeted by nearly
1,000 followers who were per-
mitted into the port area, and
by thousands more who awaited
him outside the port gates.
Guards of police and Hassidic
youth struggled to enable Rabbi
Teitelbaum to reach his car,
which took him to the nearby
quarter of Kiryat Eliahu where
he spent the night.
Special tickets for the train
to Jerusalem were printed by
the sect because standard tickets
bear Israel's insignia and the
Neturei Karta does not recog-
nize Israel.
New Jersey Rabbinate
Opposes 2 State Laws
TRENTON, N.J. (JTA)—The
New Jersey Rabbinical Council
made plans to muster support
in the State Assembly for a bill
which would exempt from the
State's new Sunday closing law
businessmen who observed as
their sabbath a day other than
Sunday.
Absence of such a qualifica-
tion from the legislation which
Gov. Robert B. Meyner recently
signed provoked a considerable
amount of resentment in Jewish
circles and the Governor was
strongly criticized for approving
the measure without a public
hearing.
The rabbinical group also
disclosed that a large delegation
would attend a hearing here on
July 13 to voice opposition to
the so-called humane slaughter
bill now pending in the legis-
lature.
