Dr, Orlinsky Wins

Dr. HARRY M. ORLINSKY,
professor of Bible at Hebrew
Union College-Jewish Institute
of Religion, has been awarded
the National Jewish Welfare
Board's Frank L. Well Award
for distinguished contribu-
tions to the development of
American Jewish culture. Dr.
Orlinsky, author of "Ancient
Israel," a short history of the
societies that produced the
Bible, was the sole Jewish
member of the committee of
scholars which in 1952 pro-
duced the Revised Standard
Version of the Old Testament
for the Federation of
Churches. He is now editor-
in-chief of the committee
making a new English transla-
tion of the Hebrew Bible for
the Jewish Publication Soci-
ety of America.

on Israel Pilgrimages

Youth and adult leaders rep-
resenting the 575 Reform Tem-
ples of the Union of American
Hebrew Congregations left on a
pilgrimage to the state of Israel.
Rabbi Jay Kaufman. UAHC
vice-president. led 45 lay and
rabbinic leaders of Reform tem-
ples in the U.S. and Canada on
a world tour, and Rabbi Balfour
Brickner, of Temple Sinai,
Washington. D.C., is in charge
of 30 teenagers participating in
a Bible study group.
The adult group is attending
the International Conference of
the World Union for Progres-
sive Judaism in London. which
began on Wednesday, and a
three - week convocation and
tour of Israel. from Thursday ,
through Aug. 5.
