On his first anniversary as
spiritual leader of Cong. Khal
Charedim, Rabbi Herman
Deutsch will be honored at a
testimonial dinner sponsored by
a representative group of syna-
gogue. landsmanshaften a n d
fraternal ‘org4nization leaders
at 7 p.m., Ju?y 20 at Holiday
Manor.
Guest speaker will be Rabbi
Hirsh Meisels. of Chicago, a
brother of former Detroit Rabbi
Chaim Meisels. who was found-
ing spiritual leader of Khal
Charedim.
Rabbi Deutsch recently arriv-
ed from Europe, where lie oc-
cupied a leadership position in
the Vienna Orthodox community
for nearly ten years following,
the war. Originally from Sandro,
Hungary, he was at one time
known as the Sandro Rebe for
his city and 48 surrounding
Jewish communities.
In Vienna, Rabbi Deutsch or-
ganized a Yeshivah with over
60 students. built a mikvah and
established a Talmud Torah for
the 600-member Jewish commu-
nity.
Spiritual and lay leaders will
extend greetings. and cantors
will participate in the banquet.

Aims of the non-profit society
consist in promoting study and
research, publishing the results
of research conducted by the
society members, collecting and
preserving records bearing on
the history of Michigan's Jewry,
establishing a permanent
archives and marking sites of
Jewish historical significance.
Membership. according to
Rabbi Applebaum, is "open to
all persons interested in Michi-
gan Jewish history who will ac-
tively participate or otherwise
support its aims."
The rabbi, who is chairman of
publication and research for the
planned annual periodical, said
that the title of the bulletin will
be "Pincas," the Hebtew word
