City Bank Announces
Rubiner's Promotion
City Bank this week an-
nounced the promotion of
James M. French from vice-
president to general vice-pres-
ident, in which position he
heads the bank's investment de-
partment.
At the same time. announce

as assistant
cashier. He is
a commercial
loan officer.

who graduated
with a bache-

Rubiner from the Uni-
versity of Michigan. is the son
of Judge Charles Rubiner, cur-
rent president of the Detroit
Bar Association. and Mrs. Rub-
iner.
After serving for 31/2 years as
a lieutenant junior grade in the
U.S. Navy, Rubiner joined City
Bank in 1957. He is married to
the former Barbara Kass.

Detroiters to Play Major Roles
at Bnai Brith District Convention
Some} 75 Detroit men and
women will represent their lo-
cal lodges and chapters at the
1959 convention of District No.
6 of Bnai Brith.
Heading the delegation to the
four - day convention, which
opens Sunday, in Winnipeg,
Canada. will be Harry Weinber-
ger and Mrs. Philip Edelheit,
newly-elected presidents of the
Detroit Men's and Women's
Bnai Brith Councils.
Several local leaders will play
leading roles at various sessions
of the parley.
Mrs. Charles D. Solovich, the
first Detroit woman to attain
the international presidency of
the organization, will be the
principal speaker at the joint
opening session in the Royal
Alexandria Hotel.
The Sunday evening program
will be chaired by Mrs. Robert
A. Coggan, also of Detroit, presi-
dent of the Women's District,
along with David C. Goldfine, of
Chicago, president of the Men's
District.
On the closing day of the con-
ference, on Wednesday, when
new officers will be elected, an-
other Detroiter. Samuel W. Leib,
will be honored for 10 years of
continued service in Di5trict
activities, following his year as
president.
Over 1,000 delegates are ex-
pected to attend the final pro-
gram Wednesday evening, when
Label A. Katz, of New Orleans,
La., the recently-elected world
president of Bnai Brith, makes
his first official visit to the Dis-
trict. He will speak in the Civic
Auditorium.
Other convention highlights
will include an exchange of
Canadian and American flags
and the presentation of 50-year
membership citations to Max
Finkelstein and S. Hart Green,
both of Quebe
Attending th convention, be-
sides Weinberg and Leib, will
be the following Detroit Bnai
Brith men leaders: Harry Yud-
koff, memberof the Supreme
Lodge board of governors, and
Sidney J. Karbel, member of
the national ADL commission,
both past District presidents;
Harry N. Katz and Louis E. Bar-
den, past Detroit Council mem-
bers and members of the Dis-
trict board; and Hy Crystal, ex-
ecutive director of Bnai Brith
in Michigan.
The following past Detroit
presidents also will be in at-
tendance: Louis Weber, junior
past president; Jack Caminker,
Melvin Weisz and Maxwell M.
Lowe. as will be three current
vice-presidents, Milo Rapaport,
Morris Direnfeld and Maurice
Zeiger.
