Local Branch for
Mentally Ill Youth

At a meeting under the
auspices of the National Organi-
zation for Mentally Ill Children,
last week at the Grosse Pointe
War Memorial Center, a com-
mittee was selected to encour-
age the Michigan Association
for Mentally Ill to assist in the
form.tion of a Detroit char ter
of the national organization.
Dr. Morris Marx is temporary
chairman of the committee
which includes Miss Helen Mc-
Crea, Mrs. Robert J. Newman,
Mrs. Ralph Lee Fisher and
Mrs. Bayre Levin.
Mrs. Levin, who was among
the leaders in promoting the
movement's activities here. said
"there is hope that in the near
future there will be a close
state and national relationship"
in efforts to assist mentally
children.
The National Organization for
Mentally Ill Children, Inc. was
established in 1950 when it
was known as the League for
Emotionally Disturbed Chil-
dren, Inc. A non-profit, public
service; the NOMIC is "based
on the realization that an inte-
grated and total approach in
childhood mental illness is im-
perative."
